Any common issues with a '05 GT

A friend of mine is looking at an '05 GT. I recommended a PPI and from what I have read up on they seem to hold up really well. Any common issues I have missed? Air suspension, power train, brakes?

Thanks in advance,

Only common problems I have seen are persons staring and picture taking. Attracts attention and questions regarding costs.

I bet that is not what you had in mind but a I could not resist some of my charateristic odd humor. I think on this page one guy had some brake issues after hard braking from 200mph. These cars are high quality items and do pretty well. They are not the super delicate, always tearing up exotic money pits. IMHO.

G'day.

no mechanical issues really. however the nav is useless. there is no bluetooth. and rear brake requires a VAG computer to change pads which means the job costs a bit.

otherwise, check for service records and get a ppi done.

I can live with installing an aftermarket NAV, but the brakes? Calibration or what?

Is the NAV integrated to can Bus? Opto converter or dac converter? I would probably recommend him to run an AVIC.

No major problems so far as they are built like tanks.

New models has touchscreen for centre console...much better than the side buttons.

touch screen is on the new 2012 model.

i have not seen an aftermarket installation of a head unit on the 04-2011. i think there is probably a reason why. it doesn't look like a standard double DIN unit.

as for the rear brake, the rear caliper requires a VAG computer to release the pistons in order to swap rear pads. don't know why VW/bentley designed it that way. given the speed and heft of this beast, pads don't last that long, even in the rears.

Solution

There is a work around for the rear pads that I performed on an 05 and 07 GT. You can actually remove the 2 screws for the brake motor from the back of the caliper and spin it down to allow for the meat on the new pads. No codes after the job and it works great.
