New battery for 2004 Continental GT

Hi Guys

I suspect one of my batteries (the LHS one as you look in the boot) is on it's way out. I have the battery conditioner on it, but for the past 2 hours its been flashing on "start" with no change

If I do need to swap out the battery, which one would I need please, as I''m getting varying results

Thank in advance

Buy a yuasa battery comes with a 5 year guarantee (halfords £132 ish).
i've had two new ones under the guarantee as these cars eat battery's for dinner.
i have two 100ah / 900a battery's on mine (so not one big one and one small one ).

Ah ok. I have used Yuasa batteries in the past, so I'm familiar with them.

would you happen to know the model number at all? I'll also have a look around as a lot of sites will let you put the reg in and bring suggestions

thanks

It's HSB019 100ah / 900a (Get two one for each side).

Would I need to replace both? It looks like just the LHS one is giving me problems. I presume I can also leave this on trickle charge if I don't use the car for a bit?

Appreciate the advice

Hello, yes indeed the electrical gremlins appear when batteries go weak. May I suggest that one goes to an auto parts store and ask them to do a load test on each battery. This will weed out which battery needs replacing. The left-hand battery will cause the electrical system to misbehave ( when failing). Sometimes a warning on the dash will come up, start vehicle low battery voltage. Before I replaced the left hand battery, the boot lights did not work, the informat system flickered on and off and multiple pending trouble codes.

The left hand battery is referred to as a AGM (absorption gas mat) battery. There are several reasons why it is specified. Most importantly it can last longer with the demands of the BGT. Plenty of information on the internet regarding this type of battery. Perhaps another reason is safety regarding a rear-end accident, there's no liquid acid in this battery. The right hand battery, however, is conventional.

Regards

Hi There

Thanks for the info. Symptoms were that the keyless entry didn't work (I had to use the key to unlock the car) and the boot lid button wouldn't work unless I started the engine. I put the LHS battery on charge, and it blinked continuously on the first battery icon (according to the instructions that is due to sulphate build up). I left it overnight and when I checked this morning the error light was on (again, according to the instructions this meant the battery wasn't on a good shape).

I do also get a intermittent "Check lights" warning light (in amber) come up on the dash when I start the engine. According to the Bentley specialist I took it to, that could be to do with moisture getting into the third high level brake light.

Anyway, I brought a new Yuasa battery from Halfords this morning and I'll get that fitted. Won't be able to tell for a while as I've returned the car to the place I purchased it from to get some things done to it, and I won't get it back for a few weeks as I'll be recovering from a foot operation, so hopefully it'll all be sorted. The engine starts fine first time every time with no warning lights, so I've assumed the RHS battery is ok.

Mr. Massf,
I just gave an explanation read my previous response. AGM = absorbed gas mat. That is the type of battery specified for the left hand battery on a 2004 Bentley Continental. The battery is more rigorous and it is what it is going to last longer than a conventional submerged acid battery. Owning an exotic as a Bentley, requires one to self-educate and pay attention to the subtle differences in detail. These cars become more expensive when we are not cautious consumers and maintainers.
Regards

1eapplebaum, apologies yes, I do recall you originally specifying what AGM meant. I was flicking between 2 different posts of mine and didn't take proper note.

I went for the standard battery type for two reasons.
1) it was recommended to me by a fellowe Bentley owner
2) it has a 5 year warranty on it, so should it develop problems then I can replace it

I'm new to owning a marque such as Bentley, so still learning.

Many Thanks
