Problems filling up?

I've noticed that with any of the newer style auto-shutoff gas pumps, it only fills up like 1/2 or 3/4 of the way and then keeps shutting off? is there somethign weird about the 986 fuel tank/piping/whatever to make it do this?

I dont know about the piping, but mine does this every time. I walk in, get my snacks and expect to come out to a full car.. never ever works.

i have noticed i have better luck on older-style pumps (without that big "shield" thing for top-off prevention/overflow/whatever)

My 01' 986 S NEVER fills up all the way. Always stop at the 3/4 or close to(but not 100%) full.

Back from dead.
My car only gets like 45 miles out of the first quart. Is it the smallest part of the tank or is it that it did not fill up right. Oh and the gas needle moves a bit in only 6 miles???
