Help on PCM install

Hi guys
I got an used PCM from a 997, allegedly without bose, like my 987s.
I almost got the head unit installed, and sadly for me it did not work. I got the message:" Internal error, Amplifier not available", therefore no sound. Does that means that the head unit actually came from a 997 with Bose instead of without?
What should I do? The dealer here is not flexible regarding programming hardware not sold by them, if they would, any idea of the cost?

I think you have a compatibility issue. Someone said software update could help, but I am not sure.

Find another dealer, it is a simple reprogramming job. If you were in CT I would do it for you as I have a PIWIS.

Thanks bud, tempting considering that I used to live in MA...
I was offered a Bose amp for 150, but somehow I feel that I'll make my problems worst...
Any hints on that?
Thanks!

Your are right, you will also need the optic cable for the amp plus for a proper sound the extra speakers. You are better off getting the PCM coded.

I just spoke with one of the guys from Sunset and he told me that he is not sure if the PCM is specific for Bose and non Bose systems, ie different part numbers. If so, it is a hardware issue, no soft reset will do the trick, don't you think?
Thanks, you're great help!

The PCM unit can be changed, there are a couple of ways, PIWIS for coding and PCM firware using the update CDs. I would think you need the first. I will have a look at my unit but I am pretty sure that a combination of MOST unit setup and PCM it is a simple job.

According to one dealer here in Durhole, if one install a second MOST device to close the loop, the error should (or could?) go away. Anyhow, the rest of the hardware is coming, I'll know more once I finish installing the nav DVD.
Hopefully in the future we'll have traffic as europeans do, considering that the technology is here and in use...

Anyone has experience/suggestions? I'll be taking the car back this tuesday and I'm afraid I'm going to spend another 130 for no good reason....
Thanks!

Dunno if you've figured out yet as this thread is old but certain PCM's do not have built in amplifiers (Porsche calls them drivers) to work with sound package plus; so while all PCM's can be coded to work with Bose, not all PCM's can be coded to work with the sound package plus, or regular sound package on the Cayman2.7.
