Softronic ECU + IPD Plenum?
Softronic ECU + IPD Plenum?
All:
Is anyone running the Softronic ECU re-flash WITH the RSS IPD Plenum? I would be interested in any feedback...
So how does the Softronic Re-flash work specific to a custom image for the mods you are running? Are there specific images for particular mods or are there questions that need to be answered during the reflashing process?
So lets assume that after purchasing the Softronic product I decide to purchase a cat back exhaust system. Is an image available for aftermarket exhaust or do I need to purchase another image?
Appreciate any feedback...

You car is a 987 right?
There are two sets of Softronic software. The original one and the one bundle with Race Plenum and larger throttle body and race plenum software.
The IPD could work on original software but the later one comes with the plenum and tested as a set already. Look at caymanclub for the race plenum.
The softronic will self adjust for minor changes like exhaust.

Thanks guys...I went through a good bit of the info over at caymanclub.net and had it stuck in my head that you needed a custom image based off of the mods on your vehicle. Yup...it's a 987. I knew about the two images you mentioned but thought there were more.
Makes sense...just like the stock image, the ECU "learns" and adjusts. Following the same logic (and assuming the effectiveness of the IPD plenum), the ECU would adjust for that and the EVO intake. Later mods would go through the same learning process. I wonder just how different the "standard" image is from the "bundled" image with the GT3 plenum and bigger throttle body.
Anyway...thanks...

The race plenum software is tuned for the GT3 plenum (without the air diverter valve). I think you could find dyno comparison between stock and softronic + IPD at CC.
If you look at the race plenum dyno chart, the hp/torque curve is change significantly.

Thanks for the info gents...
DesertCaymanS: So you are going to go to the GT3 plenum AND Softronic image when it's available?? You are now running the "available" image and the IPD??
Dave W: Have you heard of issues? I didn't have any knocking when I installed the IPD plenum and Evo intake a while ago. I know knocking isn't especially good for pistons and such.

I'm running Softronic,EVO Intake, plenum,Miltek headers w/o cats and Miltek cat back.No knocking ever as I've installed things one at a time.No idea where DaveW's comment about the knock sensors came from - totally at odds with my experience. I will upgrade to the softronic plenum and software because it offers more perf not because there is anything wrong with the current setup.
Knock sensors are utilized for the advance and retard of ignition timing depending on the combustion of any given cylinder within the next firing cylinder.
The new 7.8 40mhz Bosch unit can decide what to fire the next cylinder at with speeds up to and exceeding 10,000 rpm.

I'm not sure who you were wording this question to? There is nothing wrong with using knock sensors for what they were made for. Maps are made specifically with knock sensors integrated for good reasons and should remain integrated . The other post was made to make people question their use.
