Who uses their Boxster/Cayman in snowy winter?

Being rear-wheel drive, I'm hesitant about these cars in winter but wondering if anyone has real-life experience: is it suicidal or possible?

my first car was an underpowered, front wheel drive honda accord. No issues driving in snow/ice.

my second car was a decently powered rear wheel drive bmw 330i, and driving in in the winter the first time had a sharp learning curve. I learned the beauty of winter tires, and after some practice (and learning to take it very easy), it wasn't that bad.

the boxster is quite a bit more powerful than my bmw, but again, with winter tires, some patience and practice, and keeping a very light right foot, you'll probably be fine

I drive my Boxster all yr round here in Northern NJ...in the summer, I run 18" wheels with high performance summer tires...

But in the winter, I have a dedicated set of 17" rims with winter tires that I swap myself in the garage around November. They handle the snow/cold weather really well. I've driven during heavy snowfall without issue, and the tires will not lose traction even with liberal throttle application.

Here's the Boxster havin fun in the snow...

With snow tires you'll be fine, but with performance tires you're going to crash and burn if you can even get out of your driveway.

I just made it through the snowiest winter in recent memory on HP summer tires. There was only one day I drove my wife's SUV. Next winter I'll definately get winter tires though.

Why you would use summer tires in the snow/winter on any car is beyond me, but yes, these cars are fine in the winter assuming you are in any way a competent driver.

i'm new here... and am still a few months away from buying my boxster s... but i fully plan on driving it in the winter. currently i drive a BMW Z4M all year round in boston. i've had no problems in the snow with it.... the tires make all the difference.... a little commonsense helps too.
