If I ever get mine back from service (day 18 out of 54 ownership days), it will get this done at about 2,500 miles. Then again at 5,000 and every 5,000 thereafter - or until I sell the car.
Ahhh...a Bill O'Reilly fan!
Easy DIY. Two hex drain bolts. Aluminum bolts...ie very soft, easy to strip...and really **** you off in the most inopportune time. Like the previous owner did on this:

Do not over tighten. Do not use an Allen key. Do not use use a Torx bit. Use a hex bit and a socket wrench. Otherwise you'll be stuck doing this:

Replace the crush rings.
8.5 quarts on the money.
I just did my Transsyberia this past weekend. Details here:

I used Redline 5W40, which I feel is far superior to that dishwater thin Mobil 1. It might just be a Placebo Effect, but I am already noticing better fuel mileage and slower warmup for the oil (less friction?) since the change. YMMV.

Do some research on mobil 1 and acura RDX engines, the thicker synthetics have somehow been linked to spinning the bearings on the 4th and the RDX is certified to run only on mobil 1... May not be the same issue on the CTT just saying there are reasons other than marketing that vendors pick oils ranging from detergent level to viscosity to anti foaming....
And isn't the oil change interval something retarded like 20k miles on the CTT because of the 12 qt dry sump?
All I'm saying is be careful.

Under most circumstances I'd agree with you - but I have to believe that Porsche has done more R&D than either you or I when choosing an OEM oil, while I would agree mobil 1 is on the bottom of the list that I would choose when SWITCHING to synthetic, if it's the synthetic that porsche chose to begin with (and it is) than there has to be a reason for it.

I'll stick with a brand that I and many other folks trust; and that's Redline. As far as 20k service intervals on the 9 qt sump GTS engine, I'll go for the overkill and do it every 5k w/filter. Cheap insurance.

Thanks. In addition to your arguments, follow the money. How much they pay for the oil in bulk at the engine plant also might have some serious consideration.

You are taking a huge chance, I change my oil and filter every weekend regardless of the mileage!
Just kidding!

How much do you think the bulk price difference is between Mobil 1 and Red Line?
My guess is that Porsche is saving less then $15 per vehicle by using Mobil 1 over Red Line.
If Red Line is so much better, do you really believe that Porsche would purposely compromise their reputation and warranty program to save less then $15 on a $100,000 vehicle!

One of the nice things about this world is that there are different brands for different buyers. I'm happy with my choice, as you seem to be with yours. Enjoy your ride!
