No need to order Compass Display just for looks...
Hello everyone,
I'Ve been a long time lurker, and now a first time poster. In the market for a 2012 CS, and will soon be reaching out to the crowd with all sorts of queries. However, I thought it best if I first contribute something to the mix.
I was at my local dealer today, and he mentioned to me that I don't need to order the Compass if I only want it for looks. Starting on September 19th builds, Porsche will be offering the Sport Chrono Clock as Standard because they received many complaints about the PCM clock being difficult to read. But if you still want to pay $480 for the compass, that's still an option.
So, while I have yet to figure out my ultimate CS build, I am glad to know that I can at least save the $480 that I would have spent on the "cosmetic compass". Small wins.....I''ll take 'em when I can get 'em...

They are also adding door lock/unlock buttons on the inside of the front doors as well on all post sept 19th builds. They got too Many complaints about the unlock button being only on the center console. I think it's great that PCNA makes these corrections I'm real time, and don't have to wait for a new model year.
Both features would be very welcome. My V6 is supposed to be completed on Sept 27th so I should be on just the right side of this one (finally a positive to my lengthy wait). Do you know if the clock feature is going to be standard on all models or just S and Turbo?

I find it interesting that so many people knocked the Sport Chrono on the 997 even going so far as nicknaming it the "wart." Porsche adds it in the form of a compass, and now a clock, on the Cayenne and everybody loves it. I always liked it on the 997 and I like it on the Cayenne.
So how many days does it takes to build the Cayenne, your Cayenne will be finished on 9/27, and the cut-off day is after 9/19, that means it takes less then 8 days to completely build a car? Shorter then I would imagine.
Any body seen what the sport chrono clock would look like vs the compass?
Is there a press release from PCNA, I can't find the information anywhere?!?
My 997 sport chrono is a count down not a clock, intersted to know what it would look like.

I've heard that it takes about 6 days to ASSEMBLE the car but I don't know that definitively. They build the components in advance and then put it all together at the plant, paint it, etc. You can see a factory tour with the phases at the Porsche website. I don't really know that my car will start after 9/19 but if it is complete on 9/27 I certainly hope it gets these upgrades. I'll let you know later this month when I check in with my dealer.
I have heard it takes 3 days to assemble the car...
I would think it would look like this...http://youtu.be/_3l4kV42tys
