I've ordered one of these kits - not the Unichip version, but the other - from China and it should be here in a month or so. I'll post some info after I get ahold of it..
I did the install in my 991 C4S with a PCM 3.1. Take a look:
Nice, I'll check it out.. My kit actually arrived today, way faster than expected, so I'm putting together all the info I can find so I have plenty of reference material.
Any info on the Parrot mic model they used? Looks like my kit came with a cheap little generic one.
I want to do this but I want to watch a forum member teach us how to do this for a novice installer such as I. The lady from China keeps emailing me to see if I want to purchase this.
It is by no means an easy install. The difficulty is probably a 9 or 10 out of 10 since opening of the PCM is required and you need to insert a circuit board. This is a video circuit board that intercepts the video (display ) of the PCM. The “ribbon” cables are delicate, so some experience and comfort is required.
I guess it's all relative, seems pretty straightforward to me, but I've got a background in this stuff. The only real issue appears to be the poor instructions because of the language gap, but then again, I haven't pulled anything out yet.
I plan to put the time in and do this install as professionally as possible, so I'll take some pics/video as needed, and write-up a good how-to so people can feel more comfortable in doing this themselves. I've started prepping things, and should be knee deep into this by the weekend.
