Oh geez... where to begin?

diff engine, no more FI - more hp, less tq., 63 is a bit slower, and not as mod friendly

the front end is more pointy with the headlights styled a bit diff as well as the fog lights and the grill

the rear has diff tail lights and the trunk is a bit diff as well

different wheels

the inside is basically the same, except for alcantara inserts on the seats and a bit elsewhere and the gauges are black instead of white and maybe a few minor touches here or there

the exterior is refreshed, rather then redesigned and the changes are very minor... the interior is pretty much the same

the engine is the main difference...

will you miss your 911 cab?... hmm, i dunno i had a C2 and replaced it with my E55, never missed the 911...

In addition to the stuff listed above, the E63 also has revised suspension which makes it handle better than the E55, and it has a more direct steering ratio which makes the steering more sensitive.

The E63 also has the newer 7 Speed AMG Speedshift transmission with paddles rather than buttons behind the steering wheel. This transmision shifts faster than the previous 5 speed unit in the E55.

And I think the E63 no longer has the SBC braking system.

Even though the E55 and E63 owners argue about which is "better", I think the E63 is the better overall car because it handles better. The straight line acceleration of the 2 cars (stock) is very similar.

But if you modify the E55 engine, it's straight line acceleration advantage grows immensely over the E63.

Most of the road tests show the E63 slightly faster than the E55 -- both stock. Anyone have know of a road test showing the E55 faster?

I agree that the E55 is easier to mod though. I think the 7-speed (vs 5 in the E55) more than makes up for the torque disadvantage in the E63. The E63 is actually heavier too.

When in doubt, go with normal aspiration! Always a better driving experience apples to apples.

I have a CLS55, but I am shopping E63 sedans and wagons. Seems archaic to go back to the 55 engine for some reason.

you don't need "road tests" when you have youtube... the real world tests prove it best

The 63s are no doubt more advanced the 55s, but they kind of defy the point of getting an AMG. The E63 was a step in the right direction but its like the half-black half-white child that isn't accepted by either race. It's awesome, but the reason to get an AMG over the M5 was the torque. The thing I like most about the E55 is how easy and effortlessly you can go fast. The 7spd and the higher-rev NA engine made it just like every other car that makes a bunch of noise and whatnot to go fast. If you have one car and you want a sports car/sedan than the E63 is probably better than the E55 for you. For me the decision came down to the power-train and cost, and when I combined the two the E55 just made more sense plus I knew I could drive real sports cars anytime. I loathe depreciation too, so getting a new 63 wasn't really an option.

Keep in mind I have a 55 so I'm totally biased towards it as well.

What it comes down to is your preference on styling, and whether you want to mod the car. If you want to mod, go with the E55. If you want the updated styling and better handling, go with the E63. I personally like the looks of the 63 better, but its just not powerful enough for me.

I think you should get an E55, pulley kit, exhaust, ECU tune, and then go with a trunk lid spoiler(which gives it the E63 look) and an E63 bumper or one from Carlsson, Kleemann, or Brabus.

hey fellas...Im looking to buy a 04 E55 with 45K miles. Is there any difference between the 04 and 05/06 models as far as reliability/durability and engine performance? Since factory warranty ends at 50k.....should I be worried about purchasing this car without anymore warranty? thx!
