Interior Trim cleaning Advice Needed.

Hey

I couldn't find anything about cleaning and polishing my particular PIANO BLACK interior trim. read lot of advice for interior wood trims but not sure if Piano Black Interior trim is wood or more like plastic or closer to fiber.

Have small swirl marks on it specifically around the gear lever. also a small scratch on plastic/aluminium covering around the gear not sure how to remove that either... please check the pictures

any tried and tested advice is welcome. thanks.

I'm alsm onot sure if piano finish is made out of wood, but I'm pretty sure it is. But regardless of what's is it made of, it seems to have a clear coat on it, just like other finishes. Now that clear coat is lore like a lacquer/varnish, so I'm not sure if traditional methid that is used on cars paint will remove those swirl marks.

i read on some website to use light rubbing compound then polish and wax at the end but I'm too scared to try and was wondering if anyone has any experience before i ruin it as its costing around 1800 usd for a replacement set (apparently porsche only sells the trim in a set and not individually per peace) which is strange.

Hey thanks for the advice... 3M film would have been a great idea before I created this mess (mostly by keeping my phone there)

Spraying plastidip too seems a lot was wondering if using polish than wax would fix it.. That seems an easier route... For now have ordered mothers plastic/vinyl care protectant to see whether that will do any good.

Phone with a rubber case on wouldn't scratch the interior... i too have the habit of keeping the phone there...still shines perfectly

Hey guys

So just received my mothers vinyl/rubber/plastic protectant that I used on the piano black trim and it made a big difference. Cleaned the small scratches and covered a lot so it's at least not sore to the eye.

It also cleaned around the gear area and removed the small scratch or hid it pretty good

True. It gets scratched as well as dirty pretty easily. Little bit more scratches and I will change the trim (it's priced at 2000$ here in India).

I read at few sites to use scratchX then polish and then wax to remove the surface scratches so I might try that too once I get confirmation from someone.

For now it's looking good

Yes will get the 3m ppf on it soon. I already have 3m on my skirtings all around the car as well as mirrors. Mine is a white car so it's not good on white as it turns yellow after few months of use due to oxidation.
Next year will do a Matt black 3m wrap

2013 Pan GTS - Same issue

My piano black finish has micro scratches from the previous owner and/or detailer. The finish is extremely soft. This is on all the door finishes as well. I have considered replacing them with the carbon fiber set. I have not buffed them out yet but I have scratch X for the purpose.

Has anybody here popped out the trim? Is it hard? I am a very handy guy but I don't want to spend a day doing it.

Normally my goal in cars is NOT to touch these finishes. My previous car (X5) I bought new and never did put any scratches in it in the first place. But then again, it wasn't on a horizontal area.

Thx

Scott
