Windshield replacement

Hi everyone,

Having my windshield replaced tomorrow due to a crack from the storms in Dallas past weekend, I got a rockchip, safelite send a guy to fix the problem, the chip was on the edge of the windshield and the guy cracked the WS plus put a matt with his bag of tools on my hood.

Any recommendations from owner that went with this process, what should I look for, new seals, if the guys have some experience with panameras ??
Thanks all

Ive had my windshield replaced due to a small crack and I just got a OEM windshield didnt wanna risk it, especially because where I live is really hot so it would expand eventually and trying to seal it wouldn't do it for me. Check the depth of the chip always help determine how severe the damage is.

Mine got cracked, OEM replacement.

Watch for any sealant spillout when they press in the black glue seal when they push in the windshield. I had my installers come back to use exacto knife to cut off the dried seal that squeezed out inside.

If you have the thermal/sound insulated glass option, my windshield had to be ordered through the dealer. The safelite system doesn't have all the windshield options and you may end up with the wrong windshield.

When I bought my preowned 11' 4S 2 1/2 years ago, I had the dealer replace my windshield due to all of the little chips and nicks in the windshield. It looked terrible. They subcontracted it out and the people who installed it smeared the sealant on the windshield and on the inside arm of the window frame. You have no idea how frustrating it is to get into my car and see those smear marks, especially to an OCD person.

Now, I've noticed that my windshield is starting to look a little rough again. The glass Porsche uses for the windshields seems to be really soft. I've never had a car that has had a windshield get so many nicks and chips so quickly. We've even had a pretty mild winter in the Northern VA area, so not like it is winter debris that is causing it.

I heard there's the OEM and there might be 1 or 2 variants. Mine was an insurance claim so I demanded OEM. The part was OEM but Porsche sub contracts the work.

If you can, avoid "after market". The best choices are OEM or OE (manufacturer of OEM).

OP. Been going through the same process. I settled on the dealer and it is getting dropped off this weekend. I called around and most non dealers that were using OEM were almost the same as the dealer. Non OEM was about half the cost but for me and the car being so new, I only wanted OEM.

Good luck.
