Reading codes

Is durametric the only option? Can my local indy read codes through OBD2?

Any basic OBD2 Reader can read/display/reset "generic" codes. If you are looking for something more advanced, like reset maintenance minder, OEM codes or programming, it will require a Durametric or Porsche specific tools.

Awesome, thanks. Never had a maintenance reminder come up - just a CEL.

Large chain auto parts stores will plug-in their OBD2 reader and scan your car at no charge. I'm sure that they'll be happy to check out your car.

If the CEL was reset and it returns, it is possible that the gasket on cap has deteriorated (dry rot). Relatively inexpensive item... entire gas cap with tether.

I have had very good luck so far with the iCarSoft-PORII reader. Reads Porsche specific codes as well as reads most data streams. Also is a stand-alone unit.

I own both a Durametric and the iCarSoft -- for the Panamera the ICarSoft seems to have quite a bit more capability.

I have a spare OEM gas cap that doesn't leak if you need one - not too far away but I'm sure the dealers stock this item.

Regards,
Wow ok, that's obviously quite a bit cheaper than even the enthusiast Durametric I was about to pull the trigger on... What are the major differences? Is there anything that it might not read? Or are you just paying for the name with the Durametric?
