PTT left me cold this morning

So we are having our own little cold spell (but hey it’s CANADA), I went out to start the PTT and no turnover, looked down and only 10V on the battery. So I thought I’ll give it a jump, so I pull the hood release and nothing. I check and it did. Come up about a mm, so I could press down and hear it click.
I grabbed one of my son’s to put pressure on the hood as I pull the release, same deal. I try one more time and same, this time I grab a credit card and slip it into the hood by the release and joy the hood popped up.

by this time I’m pissed, my wife is leaving and I need to get to work, so I go with her. When I get back I put the trickle charger on and hope overnight will be enough.

I guess the big question is why do the German’s think that people don’t need block heaters around the world? Or at least make it an option?

What you are experiencing is this. Much better than having leaking seals from transmission, or other engine problems. This is a minor problem, hope you can google a bit and get your advice to resolve.
Thank you for supporing the Porsche community.

Thanks Ciaka

My Issue was the hood was frozen to the seals, unlocked but less than a quarter inch, I had to use my Drivers License to leverage the release open for the hood. The good news is the battery tender did the trick to get the car started, but man was it cold, it took 25 minutes of driving before the Oil Temp gauge read to the first mark. I got the chassis failure alert, but just drove it anyway. When I got to work, I shut off the engine and re-started it and the chassis failure went away.

I brought my portable jumper/charger into my office and fully charged it, so when I go to start it I should be OK. With windchill this am it's only -31F

Supposed to be a little warmer tomorrow

Hey Bob,
Had the same issue with mine last week in the cold snap. Only the hood wouldn't stay up once I opened it. The lifters would lower it a few seconds after I let go. Seems any snow or ice on the hood and down it goes. A block heater wouldn't have helped you as it was the battery not being fully charged, and not the oil being too thick. My battery is a little low but I didn't feel like changing it in -20's so I just hooked up a battery charger on it over night when it was really cold. Car started fine. Warmer temps havnt been an issue but a new battery is in the plans

Did you know that on the drivers side there is a button to lock the struts in service mode (all the way up), have a look next time you open the hood

I was just thinking, best solution to the cold is to move to a warmer place maybe.

I can't disagree. No State income tax, cost of living is super reasonable ... Near Ciaka so he can help out the Porsche ... LOL ... Many people at work retired in Austin and laugh on the way to the bank after they sold their houses in the bay area. LOL ...

By all means. Move next to me. There are 4 spots open in my cul de sac. We will rename it the Porsche Way.
Only requirements are: you are a friendly person, have reason, and respectful and helpful.
Yeah. Owning a home in the Bay area, then selling it to move to Austin is a good profit.
However, Austin has been experiencing hoards of movers over last 2 years, to the tune of about 1000 people per day
Downtown getting pretty expensive (condos average price about 850k for small 1400sqft).
I moved to have more space from folks. So if you have means to relocate, Austin is the place for sure.
I remember moving back from Cupertino, kept my salary same as what I had in the Bay, had same quality insurance (same price), ensured to have identical deductions (to compare).
My pay was about 1600/pay (2wk) more, actual take home money. So if you live in the Bay, you can keep a whole lot more $ by not living there.
OK, ending my pitch for Austin (mayor - i am expecting a check for this).
I could show comparo of 1 Million dollar home in Cupertino vs 1 Million dollar home in Austin. You would freak out.

I know. Thats who I worked for a few years while there. Did not buy house but rented. 5.5k for 1600sqft per month plus 200/month for garage. House built in 1970.
