Gearbox Modifications?

Hello. I'm new so go easy on me. I've done a quick search and come up with nothing apart from a lot of tiptronic threads. Basically I'm after some transaxle info - like what torque they can take (and at what rpm) and by how much this can be imporved. Also I would like to know how how much the gearing can be changed - in this case gearing it up so the revs come down.
Any info would be very welcome.

Simon.

It can use either a 5 or 6 speed - both manual.

Gearing is anything you want. There are plenty of 996 turbos running 650 plus ft lbs of torque with no problem. 5&6spd turbo boxes will hold up the same.

I don't suppose you know how much more they can take do you? You see I'm thinking of using one behind a duramax 6.6TD in a kit car. Obviously that means I want the longest gearing I can find (or just gearing that gives around 200mph at around 3500rpm) but also the duramax makes 650lb of torque in standard trim which only gives 360hp. Really I want at least 550hp but that equates to around 850lb.

I think you will need to look for something else. When you overdrive like that the force that the torque puts on the gears, bearings, shafts and cases is more then just the 850lbs and 550hp. Maybe the ford gt trans?

Yeah I suppose it is asking a bit much. The other option I was playing with was to get a porsche turbo engine to go with the 'box. Only a couple of issues there - I don't know how bad they are to wire and I don't know how much they cost. I would presume they're pretty expensive? I wouldn't mind getting a blown one and rebuilding it but it's finding one...

Ebay. Wiring a standalone is not that bad. you can keep the vario cam and low/high lift intake with most units out there.
