GT2 trans in TT
GT2 trans in TT
I have a low mileage 996 GT2 that I want to buy and covert to 2 wheel drive. Is there any issue with doing this? My current trans has some issues and is needing a rebuild. I thought I read that the GT2 LDS is not the greatest.
What do you guys think?

His sig. says he has a 2003 996 Turbo, so I think he is saying he wants to put a GT2 tranny in his Turbo (since he has "issues" with his OEM Turbo tranny), and making it RWD, but he is concerned about the LSD available?

Let me try this one more time. I have a 03 TT with a bad trans. I'm looking to buy a low mile GT2 trans. I know the GT2 is 2wd, that’s good. Any issues with going to a GT2 box? I’ve already bought the GT2 slave and other parts to do a GT2 clutch conversion, so my guess I'm good there.

You don't need a GT2 tranny for RWD conversion. But, the GT2 tranny does have steel synchros which makes it more resistant to 2nd gear popout.
My recommendation? Send your TT tranny in to get rebuilt and upgrade the synchros while it's there.

tranny out of all the 996 variants that came with steel synchros.
I suggest that minus the LSD, possible SS syncros and tranny cooler they are identical. I bet you can even connect the AWD in your TT to the GT2 tranny since there is definitely an input for the front driveshaft that is capped with a cover plate.
