Help with next vehicle purchase
I found that vid with the GT-R and M5 kind of funny...
After the first run, the GT-R turned rather uneventfully, where the M5 damn near lost it. Of course a modified car starting with 500HP will be better on the top end than a car with 480HP - does this really surprise anybody? Perhaps the GT-R owner should get a class on what the GT-R was NOT made for... If he wants to do high-speed runs, he should at least get an AP, Y-pipe or something.

jaspr, Chill man, I knew you were going to comment on that video..lol... The M5 was stock and the M5 will beat a GTR above 100 mph. There is another video of an M6 doing the exact same thing. wanna see that one to show you proof. Heck, an M5 will beat a stock 996tt as well in a straight line. There is a vid of that one also. It is not only the power, but the high revving engine that works well with the 7 speed tranny.
funny you left the 335i off the list, My best friend ( he is a member here) was shopping one against an M3 4 door.
He ended up with the 335i 4 door ( with the M sport) and absolutley loves it, since he added the ECU tune to it it's pleny fast enough. Living with it every day is a breeze. the 335iX might be a better choice if you ever encounter poor weather.
How 'bout an RS6 ( do they still make those? I'm sure sure, it's not offered in Canadaland)

Had a e90 M3 4dr with the V8 before I got the GT2, there's not a better car out there for the parameters you've defined. Cayenne would be more family friendly, but less fun.
New M3 is just the best all-around car you can buy, period. It's fast, handles extremely well, has all the bluetooth, nav goodies, etc. and can fit your family up to mid teens. Just a phenomenal car, almost too good. It's faster than it feels.

Thanks for the input. By the way, your username is one of my favorites on the forum.

I wasn't surprised about the outcome (it was exactly as I suspected from a higher HP car at higher speeds) - I was a little upset at the GT-R owner's apparent attitude, when he pulled in the return lane first (usually, the car who crosses first pulls in). Perhaps it is different there.
gotcha. Actually most of the vids I have seen of theirs, the looser ends up passing the winner and turning in first. But you are right the GTR owner had a bad attitude and was pissed off he lost. Not very sportsman like
Really not sure if it has been mentioned yet but why not a Panamera? Fast, comfy, and can fit the family...well if there are four of you. Dont have much experience except for a test ride in the back of it (im 6'5) and was sitting behind my father who is 6'7 and we were both comfy. Best sedan I have been in, period.

In order to afford one of those, I'd have to sell my GT2.
The Panamera Turbo is a beast. I drove it on a track and it handled superbly, but the price is crazy. I would not mind one 4 years from now when prices have dropped for used ones.
The M3 is a great car, but it is to small. It is like the mercedes AMG C63. To small. I wanted an M3, but the size was restrictive. Also the weight is kinda ridiculous at 3700lbs. It is only 300 lbs lighter than the M5 with 90 bhp less.
the 335i is 3600lbs so a bit more reasonable but still to small IMO. How can you even think of comparing a 3 series to AMG E63's, Cayennes and M5's? they are not the same class of vehicle.

M3 is a great choice, I have one as my DD and I love it. Thing is you have to rev the nuts off of it and if you're not into that sort of thing then it feels slow. E60 M5 is a better choice because of the room and added power and they are coming down price wise. V10 is the last naturally aspirated engine in an M5 so get 'em while you can.
