clutch problem

Hey guys having trouble getting car into first and reverse. I have a GT2 conversion with the slave moved over to the other side, it's always been very stiff and the engagement is right on the floor. Could it be that now the clutch has some wear and its just not disengaging all the way? With the car in gear at idle with the clutch in it kinda shutters like it's dragging and the car slightly moves forward. I read you might need to add some length to the slave push rod to change the engagement point to make up for the case not being machined for it to sit in, would this help or is the clutch just toast or worst my transmission? thanks for any input.

Adding a little length to the rod will probably fix that...also make sure your fluid is full and you have a braided steel line.

My gearbox is drilled and tapped for the GT2 slave on the left side just like yours. I have all stock 996 GT2 components and a Sachs stage 2.5 clutch. My clutch engages perfectly in the middle without any issues whatsoever. You generally do not need to lengthen the slave rod unless you are using some weird clutch as every clutch may be a little different. This has been covered in another thread here before. Make sure that the slave is securely bolted in and has not slipped a bit which would cause it to engage closer to the floor. Bleed the clutch and make sure you do not have air in the system.

I am drilled and tapped too. Does your pedal have free play in it? Can you lift the pedal up?

Thanks for replies, slave is brand new and secure clutch pedal is solid no play it has always been very stiff much more than any other that I have felt with the conversion done. The clutch is one of the UMW LWFW kits. I'll try the lengthened rod if that doesn't work have to pull the clutch and see whats going on.

That's weird. The UMW kit is a Sachs clutch. Nothing weird there. I would try the cheap fix first and thoroughly bleed the system. If you have some trapped air in there then you are compressing the air as you step on the clutch and as a result would not get complete disengagement of your clutch. In other words, your engagement point would be very low. Also make sure your slave rod is not binding on anything as that would give you an overly stiff pedal.

It definitely got bled, maybe the clutch just needs to be rebuilt, I forget I have almost 40k miles on this kit with the turbo upgrade and tuning. It probably doesn't owe me too much more

Just a update; Finally put in a lengthened rod made a big difference engagement is perfect and I can shift into 1st at a stop, which is nice
