maybe the inserts are less harsh....than what you are experiencing now.

I had the same experience and have been meaning to start a thread about it. I replaced my OEM tranny mounts with some "street" urethane mounts and liked it for about 15 minutes. In my case, on top of the added vibration and exhaust noise, my LWFW became absolutely unbearable and embarrassing (every person who rode in my car gave me a strange look and asked what was broken).

I was about to have the LWFW removed entirely when my shop suggested swapping the tranny mounts for OEM 997 mounts. Tried it and was shocked at the difference. The car is dead quiet now (maybe even too quiet...time for an exhaust). I can't hear the LWFW at all now. It’s much more quiet now than before I even put the urethane mounts in so I'm guessing my old OEM's were shot. In addition to less flywheel noise, the exhaust noise has also been reduced by a fairly large margin.

What I came away learning is that tranny mounts on our cars (the condition and type) have a massive effect on the amount of LWFW and exhaust /engine noise entering the cabin. I can't stress this enough...it’s like a different car. It probably also partially explains why people report such varying opinions/experiences on a the noise associated with a particular manufacturer's LWFW kit or exhaust.

I just installed the Cantrell Motorsports 60 durometer (green) urethane transmission mount inserts. It actually seems quieter / less NVH than my totally shot stock mounts.

Your stock mounts must have been completely gone then.

The ones that I had were also the Cantrell greens. The guys at Cantrell did the install (and de-install) for me actually. They are a quality part and they definitely made it shift better, but for a street driven car with a LWFW, it was too much noise.

My Cantrell greens are for sale (along with the carrier) if anyone wants them. Probably have 1K miles on them.

Yes, mine were almost completely gone.

Cautionary tale, check these mounts often, especially if you drive / launch hard! I didn't, and now I have a leaky tiptronic transfer case.

i have pulled my driveline out of both cars this past weekend. the car i just bought has a new 997 trans mount. looks just like the old 996 mount. my old mount that i did a window weld mod on 3 yrs ago is still intact and going strong. no wear at all. 20$ mod that can't be beat.

I plan on keeping my Torque Solutions now after running on the track! Great feel. The noise seems to have gotten better than after the original install. I let me friend drive it and he is a GT3 guy- says its sounds and feels like a GT3 now! I may get an extra mount and swap for track days but I have to say its nice on hard runs!

Window weld

I did the window weld mod last week. It worked out pretty well. The rubber in the existing mounts was still in good shape and the mod makes very little difference in the nvh. I could only tell a bit less looseness when shifting, and slight nvh when accelerating hard. In normal driving it would be difficult to notice. The other upside to this mod is that it will additionally protect the original rubber grommet from deterioration, which is an eventual replacement.

Pretty easy mod if you can get the car up in the air, in my case it was difficult due to limited clearance on rear ramps only!
