Popping out of second gear....uh oh.

I have an '01 TT with 11k miles and my car has begun the dreaded pop out of second gear problem. I have read various post about this issue here but most of them never have a firm conclusion. My understanding is that I need a new transmission which I assume my aftermarket warrenty will not cover. Are there any other steps I can take to fix or remedy the problem? It has only happened a few times but the issue is beginning to frighten me as I begin modding the car for more power. Will the added stress of moving up in HP have an adverse effect of this issue? I am the second owner of this car so I assume Porsche USA will not help me. What steps should I take?

Uh oh.......at least you have an active warranty.
Also do not assume your aftermarket warranty will not cover the repair...mine was going to until someone accidentally cancelled mine.
Wish you the best of luck and get the dealership to get prior approval from your warranty company before they start any repairs. This Monday (8.7.06) my car will have been at the dealership for 9 weeks for this repair.

A known issue should be covered by the warranty. Aftermarket or factory. Put up a fight!

9 weeks.....I would just sell the damn car and start over at that point! I am going to call the warranty company and see what they say. Hopefully this wont turn into a big mess. I have the car almost the way I want it and to have this kind of setback is annoying. Other than it popping out is there any reason why i cant just drive the car and forget about the issue. Is it doing more damage everytime that happends?

Well mine situation is alot more complicated. They should have had my car done in less then 2 weeks, but I went through all hell trying to get my car covered due to someone at the dealership accidentally canceling my service contract.
The actual problem with my car was a manufacturers defect. All the gears bearings should have a 7/1000" tolerance in movement left to right, but my cars 2nd gear had a 14/1000" tolerance, which essentially would cause my car to pop-out of gear. My car only did this going down hill in 2nd at idle....once I pressed the gas and let go, it would pop out.

My first post : https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=51723
then: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=52218
then: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=52423
Now it is getting repaired with $0.00 out of pocket to me.
Best of luck and hope all works out for you...if you want PM me if you have any other questions.

My '01 TT is having the transmission replaced with a remanufactured unit for the dreaded 2nd gear pop. The extended warranty is covering the parts and repair - to the tune of $11K! Call your warranty company and ask to speak with a supervisor and explain the problem to them. They should have no issue with sending an independent adjuster out to inspect the car. If the adjuster is convinced that the issue is a mechanical failure he will recommend that the warranty cover the cost. Good luck and keep us posted!
