Wow!!! Looks like this thread is trying to morph into this thread...

Strange indeed!!! Personally, I don't think it's up to the muster to challenge it in the view category....

Excotic...

Hmm...

In 2003 Lamborghini succeded in producing a TOTAL of 10.000 cars.

And I am talking of the TOTAL for some 40 years, not for 2003 only.

How many cars do Porsche produce per year? 100.000 plus?

(I like them both, but these figures give the term 'excotic' something to think about...)

So almost 3 times as many in one year as the total of Lambos produced.

And the problem with that is...?

One of these 2 companies isn't owned by another (sounds like that Sesame Street thing... hehe).

I think what we have here is this.... some people like the exclusivity thing of having what others don't.
And others buy their car as a tool or a toy vs. a piece of jewelry or a status symbol.
Depending on which camp you're in, will depend on your point of view here.

I have no problem having a car that is relatively common compared to a Lambo or Ferrari. I just want to have the best car for tracking and driving often. Over time it's proven to be Porsche. I don't care if they make a mini-van and 100,000 sedans. Their 996 cars are fantastic and that's what I like driving on the track.
4 years, 40,000 miles warranty... easily modified if you want to, and relative to the others we've discussed... cheap.

I think those from the other camps that say Porsche is bottom of the barrel or whatever are viewing it from the "jewelry/status" position. And from that point of view, that's true. It doesn't get the attention or the 'respect' from total strangers that the others do. When you park your TT out front of a restaraunt and there's a 360 out front... people won't ask, "Who's driving the Porsche?" When in fact, the Porsche is a much superior car. They don't care about that or even know about that.

BUT... when you're at the track, and you're doing it every month, blowing doors on those 'jewelry cars', you get a different sort of enjoyment out of the car.

Don't get me wrong, I may still buy a Ferrari or Lambo at some point. I don't hate them or dislike them. I just prefer Porsche for my purposes which is tracking and driving fairly often.

Scott hit the nail squarely on the head when he said "for my purposes." We are all different, have different "purposes", different likes and different dislikes. Style, acceleration, handling, degree of reliability, fuel economy and comfort all play a part in the decision process. You stress one catagory at the expense of another. No car we be the best in all catagories. It comes down to a matter of what attributes your value. It is kind of like choosing what Sports Illustrated Calender Girl you like best.

Yeah, makes quite a bit of sense. Guys buying $120-200k cars must really be sluming. I hope one day I can afford a Gallardo or Murcielago. You know what maybe I'll just go buy both.

Just cars? Does that number include the Cayenne or is it just the cars? Thanks

Just a reflection of what makes an exotic.
1k production / year or 28k / year?
Stockholm used to be the capital with most Porsches in the happy 80:s. They're still everywhere! I don't mind, but they sure aren't that exotic.

But what is the biggest problem?
Lamborghini owned by Audi or Porsche trying to become a supplier of SUVs, 4-doors etc.?
Or do we see possibilities for us customers...

And as a reply with regards to tracking a car, I think the Gallardo is probably one of the first Lambos reliable enough for everyday use and tracking. That can't be bad can it? I get a feeling some of you are afraid of it!(?) It certainly can give Stuttgart a bloody nose.

The tests I've seen tell me the Gallardo is a very fast car.
The Nürburgring time of 7.50 is only beaten by the GT2.
The Stradalde qualified at 7.56 and its acceleration is not at all the same (15.5 vs. 13 to 200 km/h) Check link: http://www.rs6.com/forum/showthread....&threadid=3335
And the Stradale was on P Zero Corzas (race tires) while the Gallardo was on P Zero Rossos (street tires).
sport auto is test driving the GT-3 RS in the next issue. Looking forward to that. If it's not sub 7.50 I'll be surprised.
And as I said, they're all great cars!

Well said. As i said, Porsche is fantastic. But when people start trying to give negatives on other cars without experience to substantiate, it turns threads into war. This happens on other forums all the time.

No doubt Porsche makes a great track car. Id say the best track car. I personally, would not own any Porsche,, unless it were a Turbo.

I see now Erik. You were talking about 'exotic' vs. not. I agree with you there. I don't think the 996 TT or even GT2 is really "exotic" I guess. I don't know... maybe the GT2 is. The TT is not.

Just for a note to Alan and the rest. I never once gave a negative about the Gallardo. I do kind of think it can look like a Celica at first glimpse, but I still wouldn't mind having one. I personally don't have one because as I stated above, for my purposes, I think the TT is better for me.

The Gallardo can definitely romp. It's like what, 6 seconds faster around the ring than the TT? That's damn fast.

2nd note, I'd take a Gallardo over pretty much anything Ferrari has to offer with exception of their ultra-cars (F-50, Enzo).

Boy...A statement like that gives a bad name to financially secure people. It's that type of attitude that gives the Democrat's credible ammunition for their class warfare.

Try growing up and getting out of your diapers!!! You obviously have a rash...
