In my continuing quest to upgrade my terrible 4 speaker factory stereo, I thought I would bring up the idea of possibly changing my door panels. I believe Porsche's with the hifi option came with door speakers? Correct me if im wrong but would it be possible to find these door panels and change them with my current ones? I looked into kick panel enclosures but could not find anything. Help..........

 

On the non- hifi 996's you will need to run speaker wires into the doors via the rubber boot in the front jamb and up to the dash location. As far as the doors go, You can easily fit a 6.5" on a mounting plate in the door that you'll have to make. the door panels don't "Have" to be changed, there is a way to cleanly modify the pockets.

the door trim panel is like a $2000 piece because of the side airbag. you might want to check a porsche salvage yard. "LA porsche dismantler" is one with a web presence at http://911pcar.com/

Do your due diligencce on LA Porsche Dismantler. Stories out there on those guys. You should be able to pick up the doors pretty cheap since so many are being, or have been, converted to track monsters.

 

LA Dismantlers seem like bandits to me. I'd stay away.

The airbags are mounted on the doors not the door panels. So you only need to find the HI-FI door panels. I have seen them on ebay but they are pricey..

 

Yes its a simple switch, DONT buy from LA, good deals on ebay all the time.
