OUCH!!! I'm sorry to hear that. And I guess you're out of warranty?
How many miles on it? Is it a 2002, 6speed?

I was driving the car around last week...and it "suddenly" would not go into 2nd. I could go into all gears except 2nd.

Since I did the SSK I figured a cable popped out right? So we pull the console out and on TOP everything looked fine. So it had to be the BOTTOM linkage. Well..the car clicked 30K so I figured might as well do it all at once.

got the call and they said nothing wrong with the linkage and it is the tranny inside. Its busted...soooo...I have to get a factory rebuilt.

the car is a 2001 C2 6 speed with 30K..obviously..i just said that. The shop said I could go used for about 3-4K but..then its still gambling. If that fails I have to pay again. So...at least this way I get some warranty on parts and labor. and yeah no more warranty on the car. waaaaah.....=(

I see a future of ramen noodles and home alone on the weekends.

EDIT - I am at TRE Motorsports in NoHo CA. They are great and they are going to try and work with my on the other stuff to help lessen the blow. I am working with Jeremy over there. Great guy and the shop did my expansion tank last time. Also no one could touch their pricing on all the work I needed done. I called around and got estimates and TRE was the best. I completely recco them if anyone needs work done in that area.

Ask them whats wrong with the tranny first of all, it just seems a little bit weird saying "Hey your transmission is busted, you need a new one..." opposed to "Hey listen the shift fork is all sorts of messed up... etc etc"

take it to a dealer. you can often get some warranty help for major repairs. if you get no where at the dealer ask to speak with the regional rep. transmissons should last longer than 30k.

Thanks for the info...

I will call again and ask for specifics.

As for taking it to the dealer, I simply dont have the time or luxury of towing the car here and there...and I leave out of town for the 4th holiday...I am just stuck.

But I will check on the specifics on what is wrong maybe I can reimbursed for the cost of the tranny if it was something internal that I can take up with Porsche north america.

EDIT - OK..I just spoke to Jeremy again. So...the tranny is messed up internally. For them to know EXACTLY what is wrong with it, they would have to tear it apart to diagnose it. The simple bench diagnosis is simple...the trans will not go into 2nd gear. Nothing else externally is wrong with the trans. No leaks, no linkage issues, no SSK issues...nothing. So if I paid for the shop to take apart the tranny, that would effect my CORE that I need to trade in to get the new tranny. I was also reminded my car has the B&M SSK...that alone would void any warranty issues on the trans. So...as I expected I am stuck.

So, if my car still has warranty and I did the SSK mod, Porsche wont honor the warrant... thats nuts!

ok, admittedly I am totally new to pcars-
but I have rebuilt 3 manual transmissions in the past, and two auto-transmissions.

so, are there really no fixable parts in the 6speed tranny? Is the 'standard' to just throw it away and swap in a new one? Doesn't the non-shift to 2nd gear indicate a common internal problem that has been encountered before?

what happens to the broken tranny- does it end up somewhere later on getting repaired / resold?

anyway, really sucks that you have to deal with dropping $7k!

I would get a used tranny....they last miles and mils..I am at 135+K miles on mine....call a few wrecking yards...if you can get a used one with low miles for maybe 2k vs. 7k, you can get 3 before you are at the 7k for a rebuilt....

Dude, "your transmission is broken" is not a tech term. I'll bet it is your 2nd gear synchros - notoriously problematic. I would call Powerhaus first and see wht they say - 866-437-4161.

Good luck sorry to hear. That is one of the reasons why I bought a warranty when I purchased my car.

It's not that they aren't fixable, it's that Porsche does not provide parts.
