Kenwood DNX7100 Nav questions
Kenwood DNX7100 Nav questions
Hi,
I will be ordering the Kenwood DNX7100 (http://www.abesofmaine.com/item.do?item=KWDNX7100) nav unit for my 2002 C4S and I have a couple of questions.
1) I would like to control my iPod (Audio and Video) directly from the headunit as opposed to the iPod. Is this the correct adapter? - http://www.abesofmaine.com/item.do?item=KWKCAIP500
2) I would like to have hands-free cell phone via bluetooth, but I don't want to have to wear one of those bluetooth headsets. Can I use the Kenwood Bluetooth unit and have hands-free without the in-ear adapter? - http://www.abesofmaine.com/item.do?item=KWKCABT100
3) I believe I can purchase an adapter from Porsche that will allow me to move the A/C unit to the bottom of the console and leave the tape/cd tray in the upper-bottom portion, freeing up the entire top portion for the nav unit. Is this accurate?
Thanks to all in advance for any help.

Nice choice, you will love this unit.
1) go to Kenwoods' site to verify the ipod part. I see them on ebay all the time, I need to buy one as well. I understand the ipod functionality of control on the 7100 is quite good.
2) I believe so, you can read here as it gives a brief review of the 7100 and the correct part numbers for ipod and bt hands free adapters. http://www.customautosearch.com/blog...ba55fbe2d.aspx
The BT kit comes with a mountable microphone for picking up your speech, and the caller's voice comes through your audio system. No headset needed as far as I know.
3) Yes, the AC control will easily go into the bottom slot of the lower console. You will need to buy a different AC bezel trim from Porsche.
Post some pics when you are done!
Here are pics of my 7100 install- https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ht=kenwood+nav

I hate Abe's of Maine..buying anything there was like pulling teeth because of the extra crap they try to off load on you..extended warranty, extra battery..crap you didn't need but they threw it on anyway.
I just recently received mine from a reputable Ebay seller for $979 shipped and has an optional 3 year warranty for $109. I am still not sure on the warranty but you get like 10-15 days to decide.

I am in the middle of an install of the DNX7100 and hoping for some advice (quickly) - and I suspect the answer is pretty easy, but this is my first install of a car stereo.
On my '01 996tt I have 6 speakers (dash, doors and rear), but the 7100 has 4 wires for speakers (front and rear). How do I connect these?
thanks for any advice, much appreciated...

Hey Dave,
996tt have 2 systems one with a 6ch Amp for the dash doors and rear side panels. The other has a 7 channel amp same 6 channels as above and then a channel for the sub enclosure on the rear package tray. The amps location is on the passenger side out under the hood under the louvered. The wiring for input to the amp is in the same plug as the changer cable coming out of the back of the PCM headunit . you can use a Best BHA1785 harness or a Metra 70-1787 if your new stereo has 2 sets of RCA outputs.
Hope this helps,
Shaun

that's very helpful - the deck does have 2 RCA outputs, and the Metra harness looks right.
I'll try to pick one up tomorrow.
guidance much appreciated. I'll take pics along the way and post them (assuming it works)
