Edmunds 911 Turbo BEATS GT-R 0-60, 1/4 Mile
I don't know why anyone would seriously consider buying the GT-R. Can you imagine the nightmare when you stroll into a Nissan service department with ANY little problem, they'll scream "abuse! abuse!" before you can shift your paddle-shifted tranny.
I just read that in Japan, the GT-R can't be run on just any track. It has to be a Nissan approved track. I guess if you break it on an unapproved track, you kiss the warranty goodbye. If I interpreted correctly, the car is also not allowed to wear any wheels other than what it came with or it will throw error codes.
Supposedly this may not be the case in the US, but it might be prudent to hire a lawyer to read the owners manual before you turn a wheel. Ownership seems a bit complicated.

Very very true, least from my take especially dealing with the local Manassas Nissan Service Department. I hate to say it and I am a very passive person but they're the worst in customer service I have ever dealt with. I owned a well rounded Altima 3.5 and needed warranty work and it was worse than pulling teeth. I will not go into detail as I would be writing a novel to explain but I will never purchase a Nissan again solely do to a bunch of asshats running the local service department and my experience.<O

There some real truth to that point. Mercedes and Porsche have been really excellent w.r.t service so far. The service guys all want links to my latest drag racing videos (one of them had my S600 burnout as his screen saver) and they've never blinked at working on my cars or giving me the benefit of the doubt when something's needed to be fixed. A good service experience & relationship is worth a lot.
Totally agree. The Porsche and Merc service depts have been very accommodating to me, but it always holds true to treat people the way you would like to be treated. On those lines I have had my wrenches over for BBQ and parties on many an occasion, and routinely see them at the track, go carting, grab lunch, etc.
Sorry, I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I think this is very funny. A new 4000 pound Dodge Challenger SRT beats the GT-R on the Wet SP.<O

It just keeps getting better. Not a good idea to jump to conclusions and crown a new "king" just yet.
P.S. I don't hate the GT-R, I'm sure it is a nice car. But the hype surrounding it just irritates me to no end. I'll admit, I am a Porsche "Fanboy", and when folks who don't own Porsches (or a GT-R for that matter) come over here and post about the GT-R just to start trouble, I'm gonna say something. When the 997.5 arrives with DFI and DSG, there is no way I would consider heading over to NAGTROC to start trouble. Doesn't interest me in the least what they think of Porsche, and I sure don't need their approval of the make.
Hmmm, today dry skidpad the GTR finished beyind the Yaris and the Odyssey....

Someone please explain to me how the GT-R turns such hot laps at the 'ring. Could it be that Nissan is running ringers on the 'ring?

How is this such a big revelation? The turbos always outperformed the gtr in straight line performance, the GTR's advantage comes in the handling where the turbo hasn't been able to keep up (R&T 5sec advantage @ buttonwillow). I love porsche but this time i've gotta give it up to the GTR.
On another note, is a .98g on the dry skidpad really that bad for a STOCK GT-R, on possibly worn down tires? Does this really HELP discredit the "hype", or any magazine data achieved by the GT-R, that everyone keeps suggesting? Also, how much does a skidpad number (at ONLY 1 speed and radius) have to do with the whole element of roadcourse racing or the ring? Not much, if you really know anything about the subject. You guys are too much.
