Champion vs TPC challenge
Let the two involved be the ones to decide if backing off is the right thing to do.
I am not positive why this thread has gone this direction. Justin, return my emails on suggestions of venues and we would be happy to discuss it.
We chose VIR as it is one of the best road courses in America. We would prefer to run the event at an acclaimed venue as most people will watch videos of the event rather than attend. Our other choice was the Glen... however that is a huge hike for you and we wanted to offer something in the middle.
We will not borrow a clients car to run a high speed event in. I am sorry.
Have you seen the news lately regarding tuners and fast cars? Huge liability.

VIR and MIR are both World class facilities.
Pick your Driver. Mike, Our owner, engineer, and installer will be driving our car.

At least on this forum the moderators have done an outstanding job balancing freedom to explore the opportunities without the degradation that usually comes with a challenge. Everything has been pretty civil so far I see no issues with that part. I say continue to let them have a chance to work it out but it seems pretty doubtful that this will happen since so many basic details have still not been agreed upon.

I would bet the majority of modded (and stock) car owners here would be willing to give their car to a pro driver to see what they can do with it. It's not like you guys are driving yourselfs. The drag strip and 60-130 can be done by about any guy. As for the Road Course, Randy Pobst drives people cars around on track day weekends ALL THE TIME, as do many other pro guys. The only catch is "you break, you buy".

I agree, if the proper media sources are contacted (C&D, Motortrend etc) who would love to cover a grudge match of this sort, this would still bode well for either company win or lose due to the media coverage. Hennessey got beat by lingenfelter for several years but the exposure has still helped them (no matter how shady they may be). This is good for business regardless, even if they lose or break down, which we've seen from many of the big shops in magazines including the aforementioned.
There is no need to poo-poo the thread, just let them work it out. Though that would better be served offline than in the thread.

We're in constant contact with TPC ironing out the details of this "event". There's a few factors that we need to consider before bringing it. Of course, we could just pack the car and head up there, battle it out, and see what happens. That wouldn't be fair to either party involved, or to anyone hoping to gain some valuable information about either vehicle package involved. In order to insure that there's a measurable value that comes from this event for everyone involved as well as the community at large, we need to make sure that it's conducted fairly. We need time to assemble the appropriate media outlets (in the works), determine the best location (also in the works), and coordinate a time that doesn't effect either of our normal businesses activities.
Right now we're heavily preparing to help several of our partners and vendors for the SEMA show coming up in 10 days. Our lead engineers and technical supervisors are out of town visiting with those manufacturers and vendors right now and will not return until after SEMA. We're also knee-deep preparing a 997 Turbo display engine which will be displayed in the Tial Sport booth at the PRI (Performance Racing Industry) Show coming up shortly after SEMA. It's going to be a busy few weeks to say the least. I'm sure TPC is also extremely busy at this time of year supporting their partners as well.
Lastly we still need to determine who will "referee" our event. We want it to be fair and informative, so we'll need an independent third party to oversee each of the events in order to make sure neither party brings any "funny business". They'll also be able to report back to the community in a subjective manner that doesn't skew the results, whatever they may be. We've reached out to several parties and should hear shortly from each of them. Any suggestions on who it should be would be welcomed.

Bottom line...regardless of the events that sparked the fire, you can all rest assured that there's an open line of communication between us at Champion and the crew at TPC. We both realize the potential benefit of the exposure we're both getting from the event, and details are being discussed and prepared in good spirits. There's no need to speculate or bring any negativity to this thread, since it simply doesn't exist.
So...we can wait, let us prepare the event the way it SHOULD be held, or we can both pack up our cars and do it half-a$$ed right now? We'll let the community decide. Which would you rather see...a well prepared event that brings back tangible data that every 997TT owner can use to help them make their decisions about mods. Or we can just hash it out like an unorganized street race that will really bring no measurable result. Which should it be?
Thanks!
OK folks here's a little update on what's going on:

Mike, I don't think your comments are warranted at this point, however we will all remember how brilliant you were if it doesn't happen

TT Gasman - Guys, it's been entertaining to this point, but it has run it's course. No good can come of it. I suggest you both take the high ground and step back. I'm a bit disappointed that the moderators allowed this to happen.
Guys, you all missed the boat to see who has the fastest Tuner car when you didn't respond to the invites to the Global Tuner Grand Prix this weekend at Laguna Seca! www.globaltunergp.com.
This is event was to call out all the Tuners to see who has what when it comes to both Tuner cars and Race cars! Fastest lap time at the world famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, where a car that handles well and stops well, plus has the power to pull up the hills, will be crowned the inaugural champion!
Stay tuned for the results from this weekend........and the next GTGP for 2011!
