997 Turbo S or 991 Carrera S

Hello Guys,

I've recently put an order down for the 997 Turbo S and already have a build date set for late January 2012, however since then the new 911 has come out and I've had friends tell me that I should just get the new carrera S instead.
I'd Like to hear your thoughts as I'm kind of undecided right now, on one hand I have this BEAST of a car and on the other the new generation (which will hold its value better).
I need good and SOUND advice, please!!!

The Turbo S is the fastest Porsche in the current lineup. If you want this, the Turbo S is the best.
But if you want a newer car, get the 991.

Completely different cars. The TTS is at the top of the food chain. Not only does it far out perform the Cs, it looks better (IMO) and you can still drive it as a dd. I had the same debate 8 months ago and decided to go with TTS and no regrets. I didn't want to wait 3 years for the next generation turbo s.

I was i a similar position when i was selling out of my 996. The decision was to buy a 997S or a 996tts. I chose the 997s as it was the latest platform and also knowing the 997turbo was only another 12 months out which was going to also knock the values about on the 996tts badly as well. I recall at the time i could have bought a near new (996tts sub 5000kms) for 25K less than what i stumped up for the 997S. To be honest i have no regrets. The 997S was a great car and held its value better in comparison to the 996tts which dropped value at a much greater rate. I think this close to the release of the next 991tt one would be a little crazy entertaining a new 997tts. The 991, as was the case with the 997 vs 996, is/was the latest platform and a much nicer car so will always hold its value better over the longer term vs its predecessor. Unless you could buy someone else's pain (a good used 997tts that is) at less money than the new 991C2s i personally wouldn't bother. There is no question the 997tts is the faster car, as was the case previously with the 996tts vs the 997S.
Think of it this way. One will be todays news or a long time where one is going to be yesterdays news very quickly. Also, If you don't have a porsche you will get better money trading out of the 991s into a 991tt or 991tts than what you will if you were trading a 997tts against the 991 car. Either way you decide, both are awesome cars. But the market will always view the older car as that and will value it accordingly. And prices will continually head south opening up cheaper used options again.

I would never buy the first model year of any car. To many issues that have not been worked out. Did it twice and will never do it again.
Just my 2 cents.

I would say it depends a lot on how long you plan to keep the car, and your financial situation of course.
To buy a brand new car of the outgoing model you really have to love that particular car and not go around second guessing yourself every time you see the new model.

Personally I wouldn't buy a last year model of any car, unless I could go back to 2006 and buy an E46 M3..

No brainer for me. 997TTS all day long. They are both Porsche 911s, but you're talking about one of the base models compared to one of the top models. In a few years the base (and S) 991 will still be the entry level cars, but the Turbo S will always be special. Just my thoughts of course, and good luck with your decision.

Choices

You will always be able to order a 991, not 997s anymore.

I have the Turbo S cab and it is simply the best mix of daily driver capable, drop dead performance, comfort and excitement in a gerogious package.

Back when I had my 09 C2S/pdk with some mods, I was running 435hp/410tq. I was getting 60mph in 3.7 seconds, so it was much faster than the 991 will be stock. One day my friend let me drive his TTS cab around town, when I got back in my C2S I thought something was really wrong with it. It felt as though I was dragging a pallett of bricks behind me. It took about 2 days before my car felt normal again. That is how much faster the TTS felt compared to my modded C2S.

So TTS, you will regret the 991.

Get the TTS and enjoy the hell out of it and when the 991 TT comes out you will have a choice. It might loose a little more value than the 991S, but hell you will have years of fun blowing away 991. Either way though, you will be getting a great car.

Can I just add something here...does anybody think the then 991TT or 991TTS, whenever they come out, can top the current TTS 0-60 of 2.7 seconds? Not to be a nerd but this is like calculus and limits approaching 0...you can't just keep making cars quicker and quicker and eventually, you're going to hit a wall. Maybe 0-60 of 2 seconds is the wall, but at some point, the Porsche engineers will have maximized what they can do with 6 cylinders and turbos. Even all these tuners with incredible 800 hp machines, from my very limited understanding, can't get 0-60 times that match a TTS? Any thoughts from the community? I myself will sell my 997TT in a couple of years and try to pick up a used TTS.

Seems your first choice was already the TTS, stick with it IMO.
