The stability program saw a fault and turned the system off.... Giving you the error on the dash. Restarting the car let the system restart and the car did not see the fault a second time.

From the symptom and context of where you were and how you were driving, I would suspect a wheel speed sensor or something along those lines.

A scan should show the codes needed to diagnose further.

It is probably nothing. If the light went away and does not return, I would not worry about it. That sort of thing happens from time to time.

I would not assume they are related. If it comes back have it inspected, just keep in mind that when the Psm failure is present you will not have the nannies to keep you in line if needed.

The only think that I am concerning is before 2 seconds from PSM failure the steering wheel was moving like the engine was off.
Thanks for the help!

I know we have some variable assist power steering, but I do not know why you would lose all power assist and make the steering feel manual...

If you are concerned, I would have the car put on the DME. There are several systems in the car that should have stored some fault codes. This is what the technicians ( or you ) will need to pursue the problem and lead to a fix.

Hello Paul,

Do you have aftermarket coilovers or sway bars?

Cheers,
Emre

Check your steering pump oil. and re-calibrate the steering angle sensor with PIWIS when you go to the dealer.

That may solve your issue.
