Xonas are on!
Bogg,
Thanks for update! You are a wealth of knowledge for those of us going through this process on non VTG conversions.
Hope it it warms up for you guys up north. It’s going to be high 80’s, low 90’s F here in CA by next week. If nothing else, it will help to pan-fry the coronavirus!
Keep us posted!!!

Now turn it up
Good weather soon guys Enjoy!!!!
Cold tell me about it! I filled up in E85 and have not been able to even go through one tank. I am having fun with the RS7 at least! We got Mitch (used to be with COBB’s) over here with us Audi guys with their new DS1 for the 4.0TT ! Finally broke and got the tune on the RS7!
I am eagerly awaiting your 60-130 numbers on pump and your full review of your set up man!

"Wow 80s to 90s sounds amazing. I want that. And a built 3.8L beast too, lol. You got it all man!"
Well in winter, fall, and spring the climate here is good- but we pay for it in the summer when it's a bit oppressive!
I'm hoping that this is it for me in terms of my 997tt build- ie, hopefully this is the end point. There's not much more I can do to it while keeping it streetable and suitable for daily driving activities. I'm just keeping fingers crossed that the Xonas, EBC, etc, all play nicely together and are all sorted out and smooth when I get the car back in a couple of weeks.

^^^ the Xonas and ebc play very nicely together. I just picked up my car today after what seemed like an eternity in the shop, heh heh. The main reason to drop the engine again was to put the correct sized tubing between the boost solenoid and the wastegates. While the engine was out I had a leakdown test done again...no issues thankfully. Changed the plugs, the front and rear diff fluid, and the oil and filter. Removed the filters related to the boost solenoid...we examined them and they were clean as a whistle after 2 years so there shouldn't be any issues....
Base wastegate pressure 11psi with the "softer" springs I put in last year. I set the target to 15psi just to "train" the ebc and to give time to use up the old stabilized fuel in the tank. First impression is that the boost control is "tighter" with the proper sized tubing. It will take a bunch more runs to get things up to full boost but the transition in the 3-4k rpm range seems really good with a very smooth strong feeling. I haven't driven the car in 6 months so it's hard to be completely objective but I've had this car for 10 years and I'm pretty sure I am correctly impressed with the 3-4k rpm transition. Over the next week or so I will get the boost up to "real man" level from the "girly man" level it's currently at...

That make the two of us!!
Glad I am subscribed as I can't wait for the exciting movie to begin!
Alright, we are up to 18psi setting and I will train the wastegate at this boost level until the half tank of old gas is gone. Very nice between 3 and 4k rpm. Not laggy turbos!
Hey Bobby, which shop were you referring to in that other thread...you mentioned they had rare exotic cars there...

I discovered that when the low fuel light comes on there ain't a lot of fuel left.
Beautiful day today so I took the missus out for a drive down by the waterfront figuring it would also help me
get rid of the last bit of the winter gas. Coming back home I thought things were okay because the needle wasn't at "rock bottom" but alas
I was wrong. Luckily I was in the middle lane and able to pull off quickly to the side of the highway. Half hour wasted waiting for CAA but at least
the missus didn't bust my chops. She still enjoyed the time outside while the kids were at home doing homework.
I rechecked all of the hose connections and will turn up the boost as soon as the polar vortex moves on.

thanks Keith. I would recommend adding gas after driving 20km (12ish miles) with the gas light on.
Lots of rain last couple of days but I'm hoping to get out tomorrow if the sun really does make an appearance....

Bogg, I am truly waiting (seams like forever LOL) till see Your numbers as I know you are conservative with your machine and don’t do “glory” runs. That means I can see real numbers and have real expectations for a set up like this.
Looks like I am going to have to rebuild my tranny man, as the last two years it had been deteriorating. Already have a quote to rebuild the tranny with GT2 3rd sync and put in a Guard LSD....so not sure just to take a hit with doing the tranny only this year and hold off with the turbo set up or bite the bullet and do both at the same time (less labor $$, but a big overall bill). Who knows with your new post coming I might decide I have to do both and not let these turbos sit down for another year.

Hey Bobby, what symptoms from the tranny? Where will you have it fixed? Sucks to have to put $$$ into the car but it is what it is.
I will get performance numbers as soon as I can. Looking at the logs, I seem to get consistent 3.0s 60-100mph 3rd gear pulls with under 18psi from the Xonas on pump gas.
Apart from a couple of glory runs on the 68s, that was the time I'd get with 22-23psi on those turbos.

I had my Numeric shifter cable installed and it never felt right. After complaining / arguing for 1 month they "reset installed it". It felt better, but the car never felt smooth and I KNEW something was wrong. After many complaints they took another look and found that my cable was snapped in between! They said it has a life time warranty and they will replace it (I paid for labor twice), but the damage was done. Every time I shifted to cause the gear not to fully engage, causing a grind. After they replaced it, the car felt so much better, but by that time it wasn't installed/linkage broken it already caused the damage. The tranny kept on deteriorating and after I put the Nitto's on 3rd & sometimes 2nd was complaining.
The person I am using to build my transmission builds for many Porsche shops, he does PDK's and everything.
To tell you the truth even though I can complain, I shouldn't as this car owes me NOTHING! It has been so reliable for over 6yrs with almost the same set up (added larger injectors and intercooler in between), has taken a beating and ask if that is all I got....just so blown away by the solidarity, reliability, robustness of this platform....and the car is 12 yrs old!! Even if the motor went, I would not like that, but the car owns me nothing & I wouldn't' be upset especially what we do with our cars!
Based on above is why I am thinking to bite the bullet and do all at the same time if I am going to keep the car as I love it, but I have had almost the same platform for 9 yrs (996t&997t).
