Hi there

Anyone got any pics of what your pushing at the rear to release the airbag?

When re-installing the wheel will it go back on straight without issue or does it need some adjusting to keep it all straight?

Gibbo,
Sorry dude, I'm not at home or I would take photos to help. Inside the wheel is a piece of spring steel. This spring steel is roughly triangular shaped in the wheel. When you push thru the access hole it displaces the triangular shaped steel enough for some plastic hooks to disengage from the airbag thus releasing it. The reason for this monkey motion is that by pushing in one place it disengages multiple (3 I think) hooked points simultaneously. When reinstalling insure it is reasonably aligned and apply uniform pressure on the bag towards the hub and it snaps back in. It is sort of keyed to fit back only one way. No alignment necessary. Sorry for the crappy explanation....

I just put my wheel on. It took 15 minutes and I did it at night. 10 of that was waiting the requisite 10 minutes. T-55 works perfect

Use a thin alan wrench... whatever fits. Push hard, it compresses the ring spring, then it all pops out.

This by the way may be the easiest mod you will ever do on your car. I mean easier than side marker lights. Only thing easier may be putting a license frame over your plate.

I'm preparing to install a new DCT wheel to replace my factory MF wheel. I've removed the air bag and center air bag retainer bracket. I haven't yet removed the wheel, but when trying to remove the trim with the MF buttons, I wasn't sure how to pull them off after removing the retaining screw for each. Also, what holdS the control module in place, as mine seems to be fixed to the wheel and I don't know how to remove it in case it needs to be transferred to the new wheel when it arrives tomorrow.

Folow-up: I did get my trim pieces removed today without any problems, and expect that the module will not be an issue either.

Final Follow-up: I finished the job with no problems at all. The new wheel looks fantastic.

Hi guys, i am David from germany and have a question.
Thanks a lot for you support in advance.

I have a 997 2007 TechArt Turbo with a MF steering wheel.

At the moment i am redesigning the car to the FL version.
So, i also would like to change the steering wheel to the round
one from the FL model.

Could you tell me if this is possible or not and if it is possible
is it only changing and coding or is it much more difficult maybe.

Regards
David

Not Trying to Hi-Jack the Thread, but I am about to try this on a 987.2 (2009 Boxster S). I am going to replace the stock STD wheel with the MF wheel. My dealer want 3 Hours labor to do the job ($390).

I am hoping that the wiring harness is already there...

I'll let you know how I make out. But any advice is welcome.

This is the wheel I am installing.
