C2 vs C2S Preference
C2 vs C2S Preference
Guys, I am selling my 997TT to downgrade to a C2S or C2. I am looking to get some money out of the transaction and still remain within the brand. I am now debating on C2 vs C2S. Obviously, C2 works a lot better with the money side, and I can just get a much nicer vehicle for what I am looking to spend. But, will I regret it? Will the difference between a TT and a base be too great? Am I crazy? Does anyone actually prefer a base carrera over a C2S?
6-Spd or PDK? I'm assuming it's a new .2 model, that is. What's more important to you: power/driving experience or some of the exclusive options?
I'm probably not the best to answer this because I've only bought S cars and have never really considered the base models. To me, by the time I add what I really want in a Base, it's priced too close to a S to not just get the S, along with the added power and base features.
I say go for the S. There are great lease deals right now so that Porsche can maintain 997 sales through the intro of the 991. I also think the residuals on the S models are a little stronger, and deals a little more aggressive. I just moved to a GTS and the dealer was pretty aggressive in making the deal. For the money, I don't think there's a better 911 out there.
But if you're more inclined for the look/exclusive model and not as much the power, then the Black Edition is actually a pretty strong deal.
Whether it's an S or Base, my bottom line is to make sure it has SC. I could care less about the chrono on the dash or even Launch Control, but the increased pedal sensitivity makes all the difference in how the car reacts.

Now, not to complicate things, but I have to qualify all of this by saying that I really like the hips on a 4....
I went from an 07 911 Turbo to an 05 C2S and from pure driving dynamics the backstep is trivial, both are a blast to drive. From a power/acceleration stand point there is a significant difference between the two. If you need to outrun all comers keep the Turbo. If you want a canyon carver that can still scoot to 60 in the low 4 second range and run high 12s in the quarter mile you will be fine, but be aware someone in a new boss mustang is going to have you at the redlights. Luckily for me this is a pleasure car that I take for fun to the twisties or on longer road trips and the decreased power was not a significant thing for me. I made the change for similiar reasons as you and am happy with the results. That being said I will be back in a Turbo in 5 years.

Fellas if he is going to a 997.2 S he will not be making any money on the deal. As much as I love P cars they still take a fair bit of depreciation hit in the first 4 years. His best be would be to find a pampered 997.1 in the mid 50k range if he wants to put some dough back in his pocket.
My opinion --
If you have to downgrade .. sell the car and keep the money .
The loss is is never gained in the lower model which is still not cheap.
One might as well buy a cheap car so that downgrading isn't a repeated event.
Learn from the experience . That's my opinion.

Tell me more about your car. I'm looking to upgrade. I have a 997.1 C2S Launch Edition that I wish had a bit more power. Though I prefer NA, sometimes FI is the answer. This is my first Porsche and I wasn't sure if I wanted to go 993 or 997 Turbo or PDK.
Many threads on this all these years. I say if you have to ask the question more then a few times to yourself, get the "S" and don't look back. That way no regreats and no second guessing every time you go into the garage.
Thanks everyone for your opinions. I traded my 997TT in today. Got a very fair price on it from the dealer and going to keep & sell some of the aftermarket pieces (like full fabspeed exhaust). I've also driven a 997.1 C2S today and I have to say, I agree with Getz and most of your opinions. It was a blast to drive and I can't imagine that I'll have $25k less fun than my turbo. Now just to find the right C2S or a 996GT3 - yup, just threw that in
