Occassional Backfiring on Downshift
I brought this up about 2 months ago, but I'm now certain my V8 Vantage is backfiring. Right after it happens you can actually smell gasoline. After reading up on other cars with a similar issue, I've found that this is basically due to an incomplete combustion cycle or remaining fuel in the chamber. Forgive me, I'm no mechanic. The first thing that was mentioned to do is to check the plugs. However I read that it takes 8 hours to replace the plugs in this car. Is this true? What do you recommend?
Another symptom that might be related is a strong hesitation or loss of power when I first give it gas.

Yes. However these are rather violently strong backfires vs what people have discussed as fun pops and gargles. Also, I have yet to hear others with a strong fuel smell. I did read about a service bulletin to replace a fuel cap, when you smell fuel often; I just don't know if this applies to my car.

Yep. Your VIN is listed. Are you the first owner? If so, I assume you'd know if the service was already completed. If not, there should be a small sticker with #163 inside the driver side door jamb if the service was already done to the car.

I'm the 3rd owner (if you count the dealer between me and the original owner). The main recall was never taken care of, and neither was the brake shim SB; so I assume many things were over looked. I'll take a look in the door jamb this afternoon.
Thanks!

You're quite welcome! I have the same issue with mine. In fact, I think this was the only issue they resolved. Luckily, I haven't had too many issues so far, and the brakes only squeal on mine when the wheels are really dirty. Gives me a reason to keep 'em clean, right?

Yeah I also need to clean the wheels every 2nd or 3rd drive (city driving).
Here are pictures of my door jamb, I see no extra stickers. I edited out my VIN.

Hi Vincent. Are you asking about the same issue? Your VIN is not listed on the service bulletin, but I'd double-check with your dealership to be sure.
