Roadster top malfunction

Hey guys, I am looking for someone that knows about the roadster tops? I was out tonight for about 30 min took the top off and it work fine, but when I went to put the car up I went to put the top on and all was well the rear mechanism went up the top came out, and then before the rear top cover came down the top released and then everything stopped???

I went and turned the car off and then turned it back on and nothing changed, top was still stuck. I then went and turned the key off and then removed it and the mechanism released.... need less to say I was not ready for it and the cover almost closed on the top.. I am now in my garage with a golf club holding the cover up and the top is partially closed.

Message is roof mechanism wont close. malfunction???

Anybody have any advice on how to fix it?

I have 2008 and I have not found the Battery as of yet... Everybody says it's behind the seat(passenger side) but I have removed the cover and all I see is insulation? I am not sure if I remove the Battery cable if that will help.
I live in Oklahoma and the nearest AM Dealer is in Dallas? That's not the end of the world, but shipping it is a concern with the top partially open?

Any help is appreciated??

On a LHD car the battery may behind the driver, either way it is under the shelf behind the seat
It's always best to have the car running when you operate the roof, the electronics on it are VERY sensitive to voltage drops
Below 10v and the control module will throw a paddy
Try it running with the windows all the way down before you operate the roof, then try to drop it before putting it back up

Roof movement paused is the error message. Tried it didn't work

It looks like you have a Vantage, can't tell from your avatar. My 09 DB9's battery is under the right side rear seat. The bottom seat squab lifts right up to expose the battery. Unsure what a Vantage does.

As for your top, does your owner's manual describe a process for manually raising the top?

Yes I'm sorry it's a V8V

No manual with car when I bought it. So I have no idea how to release the top. Cover is released and being held up. Top is locked in down position or top is up and locked an the cover ( for the top when open) is up. Stopped in mid operation. Got out of sequence.

When you turn off car, the hydraulics on the back cover relax and the cover comes down as you experienced. With the car off for few minutes, you should be able to manually close the roof. It's easier with two people. It will not close all the way, it will seem 1.5" off, it's supposed to be that way. Do not push it down. You now have to manually screw it with a tool (looks like an ikea tool) that is located behind driver's seat. One you have the tool, there is hole just over the rear view mirror, open it and use the tool gently, if you are using force, you are doing something wrong.

FYI, the battery is located under the foam, so you were almost there.

I hope this helps.

Lift the parcel shelf up (this is the alum plate behind the seats., you can see the battery, it is on the passenger side.

Oh no.. That sucks.. So sorry that happened to you!

I just got my car this week so not sure I can provide any actual help based on experience, but PM me and I am happy to send you some pics from my manual about the roof reset procedure and how manually raise and lower the top.

I've cut and pasted the pages for manual roof operation into a word document.

Ahh.. Great idea Chris. I had the pics ready to go but they were taking forever to upload from my phone. The word doc is a great solution to do it in one upload.

This
If it is stuck in semi open position
It does need two
Hold the cover back and lift the roof to a nearly closed position
Lift the back of the roof then push the cover back down
Then lock the front in place with the tool

I'd suggest a good long charge of the battery, followed by a battery reset then try the button

I had the same thing happen once to my car last month. Like uxchamp mentioned, once the hydraulics relax it can be manually put up. Once I latched it completely with the tool, then the top functioned correctly with the button then after. So far it seems to been just a one time thing.

Smile

Seems to be working fine. All I did was put it in correct position and started the car and it closed fine with the button. Got it out last night and dropped the top and worked great!
