Hi everyone, new member here. Whilst searching the net for various DB9 related questions this site came up time and time again so I thought I'd join. I have a 2005 DB9 that I bought with engine trauma, thrown rods to be exact and decided replacement was better than trying to fix it so I found an 8800 mile 2007 engine with the same engine code and am in the process of fitting the ancillaries. During this I have noticed that the new engine has bigger diameter fuel rails (20mm) than the original (about 12.5mm) and the fuel pressure sensors are different, one looks to incorporate the fuel temp sensor as that's missing. My question is.. Does anyone know if I can I run the newer sensors on my car?

Search for Aston1936 he has tons of info or Mike at Bamford Rose. Of Mike does not know no one does.
Thanks, I'll see if anyone knows and if not I will try those contacts. On a side note I did email Bamford Rose a couple of weeks ago regarding potentially getting a set of their exhaust manifolds but no one replied.
I took a look here: https://www.scuderiacarparts.com/part-finder/astonmartin/db9/oe/151/668/23907
which describes as you suggest that the fuel temp sensor is no longer used after MY06.
You don't state if you are replacing the ECMs/wiring harness (assuming not), but in general, the fuel temp sensor delete is probably because they realized they didn't need that information to make the closed loop fuel injection work properly and for cost savings they deleted it.
Given your CPUS/Wiring is expecting 2005 parts, I would reuse the 2005 injection rails. Your ECM is going to be looking for that input. My 2000 MY BMW M5 has an extra sensor in the exhaust to measure EGT. They deleted that in 2001 as unnecessary. So this type of delete/addition is not unusual.
The engine ran fine with the sensor, this engine will is as well. I highly recommend adding an oil pressure/oil temperature on the firewall end of the head opposite the oil pressure sensor that feeds the idiot light. It is very illuminating to see the pressure/temp and how long it takes to actually come up to temperature.

Thanks for taking time to reply Larry, yes I'm keeping the original engine ECUs. I dont think the fuel temp sensing has been deleted, I reckon its incorporated in the fuel pressure sensor on the newer engine, the original pressure sensors have 3 wires whereas one of the newer style Bosch sensors also has 3 wires but the other has 4 and the additional 4th wire is the same colour as the old fuel temp sensor wire. Only reason I'm thinking of using the later parts is my car has covered 66k miles and the replacement engine has 8800 miles so I'd like to use as much as I can off the low mileage engine.

Since the original sensors are likely Ford products, you could buy new ones for a relatively small amount... Running the new starter/alternator/PS pump/AC pump makes a lot of sense. Probably worth the $20 bucks for a new gates belt given the likely age of the old one.

And as always, YMMV!
Yeah new belt is on the list as is dealing with the primary cats

I've had a bit of email traffic with Mike at Bamford, I get the impression he's extremely busy and older emails probably get overlooked, I just re sent the email after a few days.
I've just replaced a fuel pressures sensor on my 08 and unfortunately got ripped off badly by AM. I paid 240AUD delivered and discovered it was a Bosch sensor that is available from various places for 50 bucks

I think it is a safe bet that there is almost nothing below the skin in my DB9 that isn't sourced from elsewhere, and further from a car in use in the 2002=2004 time frame. I have learned to start at Jag, then figure the Ford that Jag got the part from. If not there, then Volvo. Certainly the motor and all the associated electronics that appears to be the case. I have found the sensors at my local Advance auto for pennies on the dollar...
