Vacuum pump functions

I apologize in advance for my trivial question, but what are the functions of the vacuum pump on our cars?
Mine was buzzing so I think it's seized and I pulled the corresponding fuse (allows to keep the exhaust valves open so all good ) but I am now wondering if I am "losing" any additional functions/services that the vacuum pump is supposed to fulfill?

Nope. That's it. The pump only controls the bypass valves in the silencer.

So there is no link with the vacuum lines in the engine bay?

Although if the EPA monitors this forum you could be subject to an infraction for tampering with emission control items.

Oh this is the function of the exhaust valves then?
Something I need to address, I guess.
Thank you!

calinours is infamous around these parts
The vacuum pump has nothing to do with (exhaust gas) emission control and nothing to do with the rest of the engine. It simply opens and closes the silencer bypass valves to make the car more noisy. It is not an expensive component. Many owners install a switch to enable 3 modes - permanently closed (stealth mode), permanently open (hooligan mode) and standard or factory mode where the valves are open briefly at startup and then they open above 4000 or 5000 rpm to reduce exhaust back pressure and improve high rpm engine performance

Yep, it's from a Ford F-250/350/450 diesel vacuum pump for the brake booster ( Motorcraft 6C3Z-2A451-A ), but in our case it's used for the exhaust valve.

That little pump is for HVAC and locking front hubs on the Ford trucks. And they tend to have plenty of issues.

If the pump is running all of the time, the first step should be to check the vac lines and the reservoir for leaks (assuming you want the system to be able to quiet the car).
