Upgrading the stereo redux advice por favor
Well, thanks for your recommendation...Now, how about a list of those parts you speak of buddy? 😆
it's certainly not an unsightly system, and would be a definite upgrade to my 07 FS. what I don't usually hear about is what if anything is lost by installing the ben-hur unit, like do the ride height & comfort buttons on the console still operate? what appears in the drivers panel (between speedo & tech). How about all the fun things like that travel data, etc. The phone bluetooths in? I'd consider it just for the navigation interface. Map upgrade for my system is almost non-existent.
thanks.

Funny that you mention these things as I was just thinking this yesterday as well.
Bluetooth goes through the new radio, just mount the mic where the old one is in the overhead console. I always use my phone navigation but it is a big upgrade over the factory.

I have a picture somewhere, but in reference to what happens to the text display in the middle of the dash when you toggle between views, everything works for the range and gas mileage and such, but the screens that relate to the radio or navigation simply say, "Entertainment Unit".
And as Mr. Jones said, you lose no functionality. If you look at my picture, you'll see the buttons for wiper replacement (quite over-engineered and useful as a side comment), TPMS, parking sensor, seat presets, everything that you need to do.
I'm not a cheerleader for Ben Hur, I think it's over-priced, but for what you want it to do, it does absolutely perfectly without complaint.
And by the way, that shop that quoted "six months" was really saying, "That was a mock-up, we don't really know how to do this". I'm sure you figured that out.
In terms of you liking the big side buttons on the infotainment, trust me on this...you'll like a bigger screen more than those dated buttons. I spend a lot of time waiting for my daughter, picking up from various teenage activities and I watch Netflix (I'm making my way through all the seasons of the West Wing) on my Alpine through my iPhone. It's comfy, I leave the car idling, seat heat at "1" and have great surround sound and an HD screen as I blithely await my upcoming car-jacking.
To summarize: Bentley GT radios are junk. Same with the speakers. The power amp is ok.
