Do you hear a faint click in the trunk area when the key is inserted, moved to the accessory position? If not perhaps check out the switching relay for the starter battery and the various “pyro” fuses and regular fuses for the batteries, starter and ignition.

Have bitten the bullet, called the break down truck to take it to the main dealer in Marbella, C de Salamanca.
It got better last night the car alarm started going off, the only way I could stop it was to disconnect the left hand side battery.
Then I made a big mistake.......I closed the boot by hand! So they will now need the emergency method to open again!!
Oh well more to add to what I am pretty sure will be a scary bill anyway.
Oh Joy!!
Thanks for your response. Being at the mercy of the repair dealer is not fun. Hope the repair is a simple one!

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I will let you know what the problem was, once I get news and the usual huge bill from the dealer in Marbella.
Have a great weekend all.
Nigel.

Hi @NigelM, did you ever end up figuring this problem out with the car not starting? It's sounds very similar to what I'm experiencing. Reference: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...on-t-turn.html

Car not starting

Hi Pupdogg,
As yet no resolution to the problem, it is in the main dealers C de Salamanca in San Pedro, for three weeks now!!!
They think (only think!!) it is the Kessy unit, they ordered a new one from Crewe, 2000€.
It arrived but was not properly configured for my car, apparently they are set up individually, so it was sent back and they are awaiting a replacement unit.
Will let you know the outcome once I know myself.
Take care,
Nigel (Estepona, Spain)

Wow!!! Damn!!! I've been reading a lot of Phaeton forums and I seriously believe that it is the 2x Tyco solid-state relays that are bad inside the steering column locking actuator. They can be had for under $5 @ https://www.ebay.com/p/18043248331 model # Tyco V23086-C1001-X008 and re-soldered to the PCB. This is where I saw the fix: https://bit.ly/3hf3OLu. I hope this helps!

Hi @NigelM I just wanted to let you know that I was able to resolve my issue and start the car back up. You can read more in detail here: https://bit.ly/3yDTX9h. Apparently, the last time I switched my car off, I did so via the START/STOP push button and then proceeded to exit the car and lock it. In the doing so, I did not realize that the Steering Column Lock Actuator was not able to ACTUATE aka LOCK the steering column as it typically does on a shutdown (I believe this is a required step of a proper shutdown). So, when I went in the next time, the car wouldn't start as in your case. I went through banging my head against various things that could've caused it. Thanks to a few enlightened individuals on this forum (@Johnny Hotspur GT ) and locally, I was able to isolate my issue to the Steering Column Lock Actuator. So, I decided to take it apart and fix the relays (by ordering and soldering new ones) and verify that the on-board motor worked. Please note that when I took it out, it was in UNLOCKED position. After doing all of that and put it back, I still couldn't get the car to start. I thought to myself, why not take it out again and set the position of its motor to be in the LOCKED position and then try it. Viola...she was alive!!! After driving the car for a few days, I believe that my problem can still come back and it might be due to a bar START/STOP switch or the actual wiring harness to this switch. So, to make sure I don't get stuck in a similar situation for the time being, I start the car via START/STOP button but shut it down by inserting the KEY into the IGNITION and physically turning it counter-clockwise and then taking it out. This ensures that my Steering Column Lock Actuator LOCKS each and every single time. Will keep you posted as I find out more. However, for time being, please feel free to forward this to your techs as it might help your situation.

It's fixed!!!

I had the call from the dealer's in San Pedro today, the car is fixed and working again.
They replaced the kessy unit and everything has come back to life again, I have to wait till Monday to collect the car but hey, I cannot wait.
Haven't got the bill yet but they quoted just short of 2.000€ for the part plus labour. Will let you know the full SP after Monday. They have had the car since 4th of June, unfortunately Bentley sent the wrong Kessy unit first, so they had to wait for a replacement to arrive. With Brexit thing's coming from UK to Spain have slowed down considerably.....
I have a couple of presents for the car when I get it back, first a set of self levelling wheel hub B's and second a full set of Portafino blue sheepskin rugs, I look forward to fitting them.
Have a great weekend Guys.
Nigel.

The End Game......

OK, so collected the car today from San Pedro, all working perfectly!!
Minus 3.453,50€.
Those Kessy units, not cheap, (surprisingly small for the price).
Oh well, anyone thinking running one of these babies was going to be cheap.......
But Hell they are worth it!
Fitted the self levelling B's in about 30mins, amazing, the new Portafino Blue sheepskin floor embellishments (you cannot call these floor mat's, well not at the price, but hey!) Worth every cent, do not think about it order a set today. Flying Spares has great choice and very quick delivery.
All happy again, my baby is back.
Take care guy's.
Nigel.
(42° today sorry I think my mind is going).
