I think its quite possible the M3 will be heavier in US spec, but it probably won't be 300 lbs heavier. It's still pretty ridiculous though that the M3 is roughly the same weight as the Euro RS4 considering that Audi's quattro system is pretty heavy.
I'm sure the M3 will beat the RS4 in an all out track test, it will be lighter, have better weight distribution, RWD (less drivetrain loss). But thats not to say some reviewers might still prefer the drive or overall package of the RS4 or vice versa.
In the end some people will drive the M3 and think thats the car for them, then others will prefer the RS4 for the way it drives. Then there will be a few 6speeders that according to their spreedsheet and calculations the M3 will be .2 faster in this test and .3 faster in another test so surely that will be the car for them.
All I know is come december, I'm going skiing and I'll be first in line at the lifts.

Anyway, I'm guessing M3 V8 is lighter than audi V8 even though I have no proof (just because M3 V8 is lighter than their I6). Then, how did M3 is more heavier?
Yeah its hard to believe but from my findings this is what I see affects the weight:
1) seats, the side airbags in the US seats are heavy, not to mention all the power adjustments. Euro seats do not have side airbags.
2) Sunroof delete - almost all US spec cars come with sunroof. You have to special order to not get one
3) 19" wheels, euro gets 18's standard
4) US crash safety BS, can't confirm if this adds weight, but I imagine it must
5) I think since most US spec RS4s come with the premium package they count that in the weight, while in europe its maybe not as standard so they dont
But even with those five things I can't see it being more the 200lbs.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but has anyone confirmed the Euro vs. US car weight standards are the same? I know some Euro weights are more due to the fact that they include gas plus driver, where-as the "curb weight" in the US is usually dry.
I think this might be the case, since 300lbs is alot of crap to add to a car to make it US legal.

...im 155 lbs...i can bench about 210 lbs.
i dont think the m3 will gain any wieght i dont think there are huge differences between the us and euro m3 like there are for the rs4...

jk bmw is praised for its interior quality too, and its ability to romp on audis at will (aka performance)

The RS4 is a heavy pig that only can match the previous generation M3 in straight line performance...Its awfulk weight distribution contributes to what surely is far worse handling....and as mentioned it is way under braked...

faces...trying to lighten the mood a little bit...since its so tense in these comparo threads. either way you look at it...in all seriousness NOW...if you think audis quality and dependabiliy are so good...why are they always ranked in the basement with VW in terms of dependability when BMW ranks way higher?

that is for 2005, 2004, and 2003 audi is in the gutten in that study while bmw ranks well above them...i could pull up more and show you more but i think u get the idea...bmw is known for quality and the M cars are know for the best all around performance without stepping into the league of Porsches, ferrari, and lambos. you cannot say the same about audi, no matter what way you look at it IMO.

I was a dedicated M driver before, but I'm loyal to good cars, not necessarily a brand. This discussion would perhaps also prove more constructive if you'd actually driven the car your criticizing too.
