If you read my post again, you'll see that I emphasized ONLY, meaning the M3 will have an auto trans at some point (probably 2009 MY).

Wyatt - I'll just accept that there's no love for the RS4.

 

Rs4 is the ****. Don't get me wrong!!!!! I see the wink, but I do want emphasize my love for the car.

It's just.... I come from an AMG family and I personally have always been an M3-fanboy. The Audi never stood a chance.

RS4 is great, but I think the M3 will be cheaper.
Where does the S4 stand? What does it compete against these days?

 

RS4. Just drove one on Saturday and am thinking about selling my C4S to get it. Amazing car!

 

Merc and BMW wish they had build quality like Audi. S4 stands between a C350 and C63 (HUGE GAP between those two) and for customers who doesn't know how to drive stick but still want a fast sedan or wagon.

bmw build quality is as good if not better than audis...just their interiors arent as good looking...compare an e46 3 series to any a4 line...the bmw is better quality...compare a new 3 series interior and new audi, the are about equal.

 

If you look carefully at your M3 the door lines does not match with body line. Also the steering wheel on a M3 is angled towards the left so basically your left arm needs more reach than your right. Compare head light, tail light, doors, Gas door etc. you can see how much more gap a 3 series have than the A4. Sorry but BMW just doesn't pay attention to these sort of things like Audi does. Same goes with Merc as well.

it is a good thing i spend most of my time measuring how many microns the gap between the door and the body of the car is. give me a break. if there is any difference it is negligible. and they do pay attention to things like that where they matter most - the driving experience!

 

Sorry but if driving experience is what you want go and get a Porsche. I personally love all cars but i just can't stand BMW's fit and finish and trust me its NOT microns more like 1/2 an inch.

i dont agree with the body lines or door or angles or any of that, and i know this comment wasnt towards me, but i used to own a 911, and short of a Porsche, ferrari, or lambo, the bmw M cars are the best you can get without stepping up in to that league. much more fun than an audi and i feel the quality is better. i have friends with audi's that drool over how nice my interior is.

 

I've had both. I don't agree.

Always been a BMW fan and felt they held their own compared to Audi. The RS4 has changed that entirely and from what I've seencome out from audi 2006 and onwards, there's nothing to point to the contrary.

 

i love how we are still atguing on which is a better car, it is rather ... this isalmost like arguing which color is better: red or blue.


at any rate, i too have had a 997. yes i is an awesome driver's car but it does not serve my purpose of being a sole car. hence i had to look at the next best thing - ///M.

at any rate, i have shopped audi's multiple times, in fact every time i've looked at a car i have always shopped audi. sorry, so far it has not compared. the rs4 may be different and as mentioned i have not driven one. but outside of the rs4 i have driven everything they have to offer and i am still with BMW. now that may change by next year, but we are talking about today.

 

well see when the US reviews of the M3 and rs4 come out.

 

Why should they be different from any other reviews? From what I've read the Audi is consistently praised for its interior and how it's put together.

 

the USA rs4 will be 300+ lbs heavier than the euro thus making it significantly heavier than the new m3. so the reviews will NOT be the same i guarantee you.

 

Who is to say the M3 won't gain weight too? Correct me if I'm wrong but so far only euro spec weight numbers have been released.

I think its quite possible the M3 will be heavier in US spec, but it probably won't be 300 lbs heavier. It's still pretty ridiculous though that the M3 is roughly the same weight as the Euro RS4 considering that Audi's quattro system is pretty heavy.

I'm sure the M3 will beat the RS4 in an all out track test, it will be lighter, have better weight distribution, RWD (less drivetrain loss). But thats not to say some reviewers might still prefer the drive or overall package of the RS4 or vice versa.

In the end some people will drive the M3 and think thats the car for them, then others will prefer the RS4 for the way it drives. Then there will be a few 6speeders that according to their spreedsheet and calculations the M3 will be .2 faster in this test and .3 faster in another test so surely that will be the car for them.

All I know is come december, I'm going skiing and I'll be first in line at the lifts.
