gt3 motor to a cayman?
I think this is the thread you meant https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...vs-997gt3.html

The issue is that the GT3 engine uses the 964/993 crank. This has a different bolt pattern than the 996/986 line. The bellhousing on the 986/987/Cayman is too small for the 996/997 flywheel, but this isn't an issue with the 3.4/3.6/3.8 swaps as the flywheel from the Boxster/Cayman bolts up. So to use the GT3 you need a custom flywheel or modify the 996/997 trans by flipping the ring gear so you don't have 6 reverse gears. Don't know if this is possible but is was on the 915 trans when they were used in 914s.
The other issue is the integrated dry sump of the 964/993 based GT3 engine, this would require a bit of fabrication in order to relocate the oil tank away from the motor as it is mounted on the GT3 as there is no room.
So with all of the issues, plus the cost of a GT3 engine, seems to make more sense to just drop in the 3.8, especially if it is going to be a street car, now if it is a track car, the GT3 conversion might make sense.

I was thinking about a cayman with a stroked 4.0 gt3 motor with around 500 hp or 4,0 turbo motor around 600 hp, sequential transmission, all the necessary suspension stuff and around 2200 lbs exclusively for track. anybody did anything like that before? sounds good to me, but?

Though what is public and easy to find is the BGB 3.8l 997 Carrera S DFI swaps that have recently been done in their two retired Grand Am Caymans. Look around this forum a bit and youtube and you'll find these monster cars. For something cost effective and pretty damn close to "bolt in" an X51 DFI 997 engine is hard to argue with.
The first car mentioned will be upwards of $200-250k when it's all said and done. The BGB cars are being done for half that. Either way, such a project is not for someone who has any concerns about resale value or isn't willing to open their checkbook wide open. The BGB cars were so expensive because they were done on Grand Am racecars that already had 6 figures into them. But for someone with a 2009 DFI Cayman S, a 3.8l 997 swap could actually be done without taking out a second mortgage or robbing your kid's college fund.
FVD did a 3.8 carrera dfi engine to a cayman for 25k euros including the engine. I can not see how that would cost $200 - $250k. With all due respect, that sounds ridicilous to me.
Anyway, I have a spare 997 Turbo engine I may be willing to reinforce with a 4 liter stroker with a pair of GT series turbos and put in a Cayman. Any ideas? I don't like the DFI engines, because they are garbage to me next to a GT1 block.

But when I'm talking the numbers I mention above we're talking a new 997 Cup Car crate engine with Motec and crate sequential gearbox. You're in for $125-150k right there. And you haven't even started the fabrication to make it fit, or any brake or suspension work, or a cage, or any sort of body work. Building a Cayman into a racecar that can run toe to toe with a 997 Cup Car for $200-250k is pretty easy to do. And by easy I mean it's easy to spend that much money, not that actually building the car is easy. Building it is not. Writing the check is the easy part...
Holy cow...it's nice to actually see some hard numbers about this dream swap. I daydream about this type of swap all day, and stuff like this serves as an appropriate reality check for sure.
