Question Cayenne GTS 2008 start issue

Hi guys,

My Cayenne GTS 2008 has 95k km ODO. Recently I had issue with starter motor, sometimes when I turn the key, nothing happen. After switching off and on again, it works. Beside that the starter sounds weak.
I decided to replace starter with an OEM. After replacing it worked well for 2 months. No issue at all and starter motor sounds always powerful.
But last few days, the issue came back. Sometimes I turn on and start, nothing happen. Switch off and on again, works fine. The starter motor works strong as usual. Here is the video I recorded yesterday:

Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you

I have an 09GTS and had the same thing happened to me two times a couple of months ago. I didn't change anything, the problem seemed to be intermittent over a 1-week period.

I tried several times to insert key, turn right to start but nothing happened. Tried probably 10 times in a row. Then I inserted, turned LEFT then RIGHT to start and it started up no problem. Not sure if that tweaked something back into place, but that's what I noticed fixed the issue for me. My worst fear was that something in the steering column went, but luckily the issue has not come back for me since.

Hi Riche
I also guess my issue relates to steering lock. Yesterday I inserted the key and turned on and didn’t hear the unlocking of steering sound, then started and nothing happened. So most probably steering lock is the issue. But I’m surprised that there is no steering lock failed error shows up.
Do you know if the key fob battery could also cause this issue? Perhaps when the key fob battery is too low, it can not signal the steering lock?

thanks

Hi tiennd, sorry to hear your car's issue. Did you get it solved already? I have a very similar problem with my 2008 cayenne V6.

hi,
the problem just went away without knowing exactly why. I replaced the starter but I doubt that was the one which helped.
but from my experience, replacing cooling pipe, starter, high pressure pump are necessary.

thanks a lot tiennd for the quick reply. how is your cayenne driving now? In my case I couldn't press the brake pedal down and there was no reaction when turning the key. After 3-4 minutes, the brake pedal got loose so it managed to start. Were you always able to press down the brake pedal?

I had this same issue on and off for about a month on my 2004 CTT. Would turn key and nothing. Lights and everything else seemed fine. I knew my battery needed to be replaced so I replaced it. Still did the same thing.

Also I would get a PSM workshop warning after starting it sometimes. Finally got a code to pop up for the bank 2 camshaft position sensor. I had replaced this part like 4 years ago also with an off brand.

A few days ago I replaced the sensor with the OEM Bosch and my cayenne starts every time. Also, over time the performance had gotten worse and worse. Plenty of low end power now since replacing the sensor.

Not sure if this is all that is wrong but mine was doing this every time I tried to drive it and has started every time since replacing the sensor so far.
