To me, the F430 is like the Aston Martin DB9 - it is what a particular car SHOULD look like.

Ferrari had that one right. It is not ugly, edgy, over the top, too bland (although some would argue this), etc... It isn't too fast, too slow, boring, or dangerous. It is right.

It is one of the better cars of my time. It obviously is no F40 or early 60's 250, nor is it trying to be. It is a competent street car with good looks, even by today's standards, with decent performance and sound that will still excite a person with only one natural remaining functional ventricle.

It is the Toyota Supra, the Mach 1, the Stingray, the NSX, the Viper, of the modern era. It is quite possibly the perfect car for me, because maybe I don't always need the latest and greatest (the latest isn't always the greatest). Maybe I'm just looking for a car that works - for me.

Aren't we all?

I think I just talked myself into an F430. DAMMIT! Right now, I decided to put my next car on hold until I find out if the Elan is going to be produced. That is my next car.

Go for it, I came from 4 Porsches, and honestly the maintenance on the Ferrari isn't bad at all, and if you shop around you can get a great deal on one right now, because of the 458's being out and the new version of this line up. If you do the research you will see the 360's had the timing belt issue and the large over excessive shop charges where the 430 it doesnt have those problems, they used the same frame with better craftsmanship . In the new 458's they are having a little bit of issue I must say, ever time you look, one is on fire, they haven't master the 458's components yet I must say. 2015 will be a great year for the 458's...My .02 cents....

Next year the replacement for the Gallardo will come out and it will be like the 458 to the 430 ... current generation G values will drop faster.

I just read through all 9 pages of this thread and for the most part there is great information. I am sorta in the position of the OP. I will soon have my dream shop built and have a place to store a couple nice cars. I have owned and raced Porsches but it has been a few years. I've been driving an Evo to hold me over and I really "use" that car. Drive it hard in the rain and snow and I like how hard I can beat on that car on our crappy Washington roads. Now I am looking at a GT-R, GT2 or 3 or 360/430. The 360 Challenge was my first choice but while I have been messing with that shop they have jumped in price. For near the same money I thing I can own a 360 Spider AND an early GT-R so that is where I am probably going.

I'm pretty impressed with the CS prices right now.

This would be a great combo!

Brandon I see that you are into sleds too! I picked that up a couple seasons ago and it has been the most addicting sport/hobby that I have ever tried. Basically got me out of the race car and off my skis. I have a 13 Pro, two XMs AND an 1100T coming for this winter. EVOMs has a sled division called Evolution Powersports that sells what they call the Super Chute package. 240HP pump and 280HP race gas. I lost track of the CS market for a while and when I checked recently they were up 25% from where they were a year ago. Looks like they have made the depreciation turn. It won't be long before they cost more than a Scud which is what I would own if I had an extra 100K. Hard for me to justify that car with our crappy weather and roads here in Washinton. I would drive the GT-R year round, the Spider when it was reasonably nice and my Tundra for DD.

It has the expected hi rev start but then the idle settled into a fairly quiet rumble that should be louder in my opinion. Inside the cabin is more cocoon like and has a more spaceship / fighter jet closed in feeling than the 430. That windshield looks like it goes on forever and you don't see any of the hood / nose. It felt like a lengthy enough test drive and did have some twisties but couldn't really open it up at all. I only got up to 5K or so. That being said, I did not like the engine notes as much as my 430. I may be wrong but my impression was that the inside of the car seemed more insulated from the engine sounds than the Ferrari. My 430 is a 6 speed manual and this was an eGear car - I don't like paddles although I know thats where all these cars are going.

I am really glad I had the chance to drive a Gallardo but the bottom line for me is that there is no way on earth I would trade in my car and 40-50K for it.

I'd love to own both but having to pick one ... Ferrari
Good info!

Yup, NOTHING is like the thrill of sledding, 2011 Turbo pro at 14 psi here and old school edge/cmx carbon fibre with 215 hp slp 903 race in it.

OH btw I'd go 430..heres my pro bout 450 lbs at 240 hp

I wound up trading in my 06 F430 coupe with pretty much no options in for an 08 F430 spider that had around 50K in options when new. The sticker on this one was 100K more than what I had. I calculated I lost 13% on my price paid three years and over 10K miles ago based on my trade in allowance ... not bad. Even though i went from a 430 to a 430, it feels like I moved up a generation. The 'new car' had 1700 miles on her.

Over the last year and a half I bought a Gallardo and traded it for a CS. I had the rational, when buying the Gallardo, that it was German and would have better build quality. Lots of Audi and VW parts so cheaper to maintain, etc. Well......none of that matters when in the back of your mind, your a Ferrari person and have wanted a bright red Ferrari since you were a little kid. I now have a pristine CS and am so happy I could sh*t myself. I truly love this car and still cant believe I own my dream. Never felt that way about the Lambo in the least. My point.....buy with your heart and get what you really want, it's the right thing to do. Buy with your mind as well, ie....get a ppi, inspect the car yourself, and make sure it's what you want. It'll passify your mind. I bought the "wrong" car and it ended up costing me much more in the long run (mods, depreciation, trade in loss, etc).
