This coating is painfully slow. HPC finished the piston set plus and extra piston. They were shipped back to S Car Go Racing yesterday. I asked Rob why the other parts were not being shipped. He said he wanted to get the pistons back and conduct a test with the extra piston. The reason for the test is the head combustion chambers, head exhaust ports and the valve combustion surfaces are scheduled to recieve the same treatment and he wanted to be sure this particular coating was "as advertised" before he proceeded with the rest of the parts. I'll post some pics as soon as the pistons arrive.

I hope that you get a break and have everything fit without the usual hassle that you seem to suffer from. Looking forward to the updates and the pictures.

03-turbo911,

The latest hassel wasn't related to fit. It was related to materials which was related to weight, heat tolerance, longevity and rpm's. This isn't to say we haven't had fit problems, however it is my belief the fit problems are behind us.

The GT3 series motors use stainless steel or titanium steel valves. The stainless steel valves are good for 8100 and the titanium steel valves are good for 8500. Neither the stainless or the titanium will take the heat of 1.5 to 2.0 bar are offer much longevity. Neither will last very long with nitrous nor were they designed to redline at 9500.

Our valves are made of a super alloy which contains a majority of Inconnel. They will withstand 10,000 rpm's along with top fuel nitro.

Our last problem occurred because the exhaust valves sent to us were manufactuered using stainless by mistake and the manufacturer won't have another set of the proper material blanks until early July.

This is a little Off Topic, but it was one year ago today my best friend Mike Maring died of cancer at 52 years old. Just short of his 53rd birthday. When my car is re launched, it will be re named in his memory.

I remember reading about this MONSTER, on Rennlist a long time... I thought it was the most amazing modified TT I had ever seen and... It's awesome to read more about it and look at pics now because it has come a long way since then, and it still is the most amazing modified TT. This car makes my jaw drop and leaves me speachless everytime I look at pics and read about it... Sick ride, keep up the great work and research cjv. I can't wait to see the final product!!!

Flyin-ByInA-GT2,

I spoke to Rob at S Car Go today. He said some of the parts are starting to arrive from HP Coatings. He said he just e-mailed some pics of some of the coated parts. As soon as I get home I will post them.

Thanks for the kind words. I am also anxiously awaiting the exhaust valves from Manley to be delivered so we can put this baby back together. It doesn't look like we will see them before the middle of July.

I think you should just buy all of these companies so you can save both time AND money

Sorry that was cruel ... but maybe you should give it some thought...

Notice the depth of the first ring.

These pistons have more tricks than most people will be able to recognize. Other than the actual piston, the tops have been coated to promote even burn and keep heat away from the piston and rings. The skirts have been coated to reduce friction. The under piston has been coated to dissipate heat and prevent oil from clinging.

The heads combustion chambers and exhaust ports will be coated with the same material used on the tops of the pistons.

The valves will have two different coatings. The tops will be coated with the same coating used on the tops of the pistons. The valve stems will be coated with the same coating used on the piston skirts.

The valve springs will be coated with the same coating used on the underside of the pistons.

The turbo's and headers should arrive next week. They are coated with a different coating called "Extreme." Will post pics as soon as they arrive.

What does all this coating mean? According to HPC we should see an additional 40 to 50 hp. More important less friction, heat which translates into better longevity and reliability.

Chad - how durable are you expecting these various coatings to be?

Wow this is quite an undertaking. I don't know the full story or anything other than you are trying to build a crazy car with crazy horsepower and that you've named it Killer Angel. I like the name and I like the project. Best of luck to you. Can't wait to see when it's finished!
