What is this thing and why is it leaking....

brake fluid into my front trunk?!? It is located just under the master cylinder and the black hose that comes from the reservoir is leaking brake fluid just as it enters this contraption. Seems to be the fitting or white piece at the end of the black tube that is leaking. What is this thing and what does it do? Can I replace the fitting or do I need a whole new thingy?

What you see under the brake master cylinder is the PSM pump. Whenever the pump activates it draws brake fluid through the black plastic tube from the brake fluid reservoir. The black line includes the white fitting and is sold as a whole (part number 99635532341).
The white fitting on the black line plugs into an adapter (part number 99635563540) which is screwed into the PSM pump. Both items are about $25 each.

Thanks Pwdrhound....Is changing them pretty straightforward? Someone on RT mentioned that you may need the PIWIS system to properly bleed.

You will most likely need PIWIS to cycle the pump as you will introduce air into the system during the swap. The swap is straight forward, yes. You will first need to bleed the fluid out of the reservoir and then swap the line.

Or perhaps Durametric since I understand it has a similar functionality.

The latest version is supposed to allow you to cycle the PSM and ABS pump but I never tried using it. Give it a shot

I figured this might be a good excuse for me to acquire a Durametric, but I use a Mac computer!

Ordered the tube last week. The dealership told me 2-3 days. So I called yesterday to see if it was in yet and was told it would be 2-3 weeks as it was coming out of Germany!! Thanks for the heads up guys.

FYI - Try a few other sources for parts vs dealer
Auto Atlanta - http://www.autoatlanta.com/
Good parts lookup diagrams
Suncoast Parts - https://www.suncoastparts.com/

(I'm sure there are others)

Tell them to Fedex it. 2-3 days from Germany. That's what my dealer does...

Yeah, I paid the expedite fee. I was just disappointed that they didn't call me when they realized it was not in the states! They said no dealership in US showed one in stock.

Update....the black hose with the white end was not leaking, rather it was the quick connector in the brass fitting. When the parts guy looked it up, he thought both parts came with the tube. I told him that I didn't think the brass fitting was included, and even gave him the part number, but he talked me out of it as there was not one showing in their system even in Germany. The thing took 3 more weeks to finally show up, by which time I had blown up my engine! I put the parts in yesterday and the leak is gone!
