PSS9 Setup
PSS9 Setup
In response to "Dave"s question, and some issues stated pertaining to set up/performance of PSS9's (FVD's or otherwise) on 996tt's.....I thought I might share with you guys my experiences.
There is an installed height front and rear for these assemblies.
Front; 75mm to 95mm (+/- 10mm range) installed length as measured from the center of of the shock bolt to the top of the bottom spring perch. I set it at 85mm for initial install.
Rear; 205mm to 210mm(+/- 2.5mm range) installed length as measured from the center of the lower shock bolt to the top of the bottom spring perch. I set the rear at 205mm. Generally this will leave about a 1 degree rake to the front, which is great for weight transfer during braking or acceleration. At this time you can adjust the rake to your prefernces via the front adjustment window ( still @ +/- 10mm range). When done with this step I scale the car, and more often than not, the corner and cross weights are too close to even warrant an adjustment. So off for alignment it goes. Use the GT2 specs for everything except ride height, and you will be "in the ballpark".
Now comes the last and most difficult part, dialing in the shock settings to your preference, this is very subjective and varies from person to person, so this is where your patience will reward you.
Initial settings I reccomend are (F/R) 6/5, or 5/4 (1=firm, 9=soft)
one click softer for the front, initially. Drive it a bit, then with your intuition set it one notch F and R in the direction your inclined to go(harder or softer), drive it a bit, THEN, go 2 nothces in the opposite direction your inclined to go, drive it a bit, then you will have a decent concept of what you are trying to acheive, and a clue as how to do it.
If you need anymore than this let me know, Jay Putnam.

Nice write-up Jayster. I do believe there is a difference in FVD vs. others, but I still think your ideas are good. I ended up (so far) with 4/4 settings. Also I've noticeed the suspension has settled in quite nicely...love it!
