They made a good point in that the best way to test a tune on a car (you're going to buy) is to put in in 4th at low rpm and floor it. If you don't hear any knock and don't have to pick up bottom end parts the tune was probably solid.

You guys are right, I had better find myself a fresh crank. I want to build a bottom end with nice rods and use my current top end. Hopefully I can resleeve the blown cylinder and get a new piston. Not looking to do anything fancy, just want reliability.
off the top of my head new cases are 8000$ each. the only partial motor for sale by ladismantlers is 4500$ . the o/p may want to keep the original matching # for his car.

I will rebuild with whatever survived and used parts from around. New pistons and better rods likely. I do have a donor case from an 03 car. Pulling the cases apart pretty soon.
