Blown motor pics.
Got it apart. Crank journal looks to have taken a beating smacking against the broken rod pieces. Not sure if I should repair or replace. The oil pump is not cracked. The connecting shaft between the IMS and the pump took a beating. The oil pump might have sucked up some aluminum shavings and it feels lumpy when I spin it, not smooth and free spinning. Not sure if this is normal. I wonder if it can be rebuilt.
The pump should be perfectly smooth when you spin the input shaft by hand. You likely sucked in metal and grooved the rotor and walls of the pump. The crank journal does not look good. It's part number 993-102-021-02. Not cheap as it lists for $5500. It's hard seeing those pictures...
Cranks can be repaired as long as they are not cracked longitudinally. However, I suggest you change over to the Cup Crank that has the 0.866" rod journal. You need rods so buy for the wider journal. Same stroke. Using the std narrow journal Crank when there is a wider version available, is not the best route.
Yep my oil pump is finished as well. I do have some nice offers from a few members. I allready have a good used case I got for $2000. I plan to rebuild with good condition used parts with upgraded rods and probably pistons and new bearings. I will need some new liners for some or all of my cylinders as half of them were damaged. My heads look good aside from two bent intake valves. I will check them for leaks. I have some experience having built several engines: Honda 400ex, Suzuki LTR-450, Honda CBR600F4, and an Oldsmobile 455. I believe I can do everything for the 996TT except the cam timing and the machining. I'm thinking that Silly Rabbit can help me out with the top end and their fuel system looks good as well. I will do a build thread once I get going.
Some motors have been posted for sale, might be willing to evaluate those vs building this one from parts. Of course in the end this one is likely to be bulletproof. I guess it depends on what a stock motor might cost in good shape with added mods. Either way good luck and it's nice to see everyone with parts helping out! Hope to build mine in the future too
if your expecting that low of a build cost dont be thinking about doing a 3.8 build, or any head work you'll crush your budget and then some.
if you want some advice from someone thats been there hit me up.

I'm just looking to get back what I had with forged rods and a freshened up motor. I was pretty happy to with the 18g's. I think the 996tt is a great all around street car that is fun to drive, looks good, and has good top speed. The moster high horsepower builds are cool but if I were looking to build the king of speed a much higher displacement engine would be a better starting point.
Yeah looking at the damage i think 8 to 10k is way to low. Just a crank your looking at 5k alone. You need a bottom end and tons of parts. Rods are going to cost 2k. Im sure the bottom end will be in the low teens.
