I have an 09 Gen 1 Manual Turbo and it's the best decision Ive ever made! I bought it based on the general opinion that the mezger block is the undisputed king of Turbo engines and can handle anything you throw at it! ( within reason lol ).

Regarding the OVER REVS check. If someone can clarify here...

My understanding is that for the 997's ( including non turbos ) the actual ranges for each group ( 1,2,3,4,5,6 ) are different. So if a 997 carrera s has got 500 ignitions in range 5 and a Turbo has the same in range 5 then surely based on the fact that the 3.8 block is no way in any form as solid as the mezger block it would be deemed a lot worse a situation than say the Turbo as that engine is far superior. Is this correct? Which means that the fact that Porsche will not warranty cars based on the SAME check is un-fair? Or am i wrong regarding their warranty policy? Do they allow more for the Turbo gen 1 knowing that it's a much better engine?

P.S The debate on PCCB's in my opinion is simple, if the car comes with them on then great Just buy the car knowing that any repair/damage work is going to cost you! At the end of the day they are less weight, better bite, less fade, less brake dust etc

do you guys think the limited slip differential is a MUST HAVE for the 997 6 speed? I saw couple cars I like but none of them come with it...

Only if you are intending to track the car and need the LSD.

P.S Adaptive sports seats are much better, feel better, look better etc BUT add weight. So depends on what you need/want more. I went for the lighter option.... i can live without the extra deep bolsters.

Separate issues, was just adding my 2 cents about seats...

The LSD vs NON LSD - only need it for track

Sports seats VS Adaptive seats - lightweight VS comfort/look/feel

For anyone interested there is a 2008 BLK/BLK TT Cab at Carmax in NM. And it has Adaptive Sport Seats, PCCB's , 6 Speed and 8K miles! Oh, also has the multi steering wheel.. so very tempting.

I would've bought that car only if it was a coupe not a cab...

Thanks for all your info on this and other threads. I read thru most of it over the years but wanted to ask your opinion regarding similar mods to a 996TT.

I had a stock one (996TT) and was very disappointed in the handling so I added a few mods including PSS9's, sway bars, alignment by TC in Milpitas, short shifter, Europipe. It was a major improvement but I still wanted something more. The car still 'moved' around too much for me on bumpy corners and the front end was 'light' at speeds over 100. As I look for my next P car I just can't ignore the draw of that turbo power but would prefer a better handling car than what I had.

So my question - do you think the 997.1/2TT chassis has improved to lessen the 'issues' I was having with my 996TT? As much as I can't cross the 997TT off my shopping list (used 991 vs used 997.1/2 TT?) I don't want to be disappointed again in the handling - especially after spending $$ on the suspension upgrades you so thoughtfully detailed.

Other thoughts -

The trade off for me might be less power (991S) or more 'GT-like' handing (997TT)

The used market right now is very interesting as I'm seeing used 991's cars priced the same as used 997.2 TT ($90-$100K) and the 997.1 TT are only a bit less - I'm limiting my search to a 2009 TT as of today because of the upgraded PCM.

I'll probably wait till spring and hopefully by then I'll have made my decision.

I do not know the answer and wouldn't dare to answer such a loaded question. That said, once you've had a Turbo, I think you could only go in a couple of directions:
1. Newer Turbo (in other words, move to 997tt)
2. GT3
3. GT2
My opinion is that a move to 991 might be disappointing for you. I've driven one, great car, but I miss the power and I don't think it has the handling you are looking for.

As you appear to be a fairly "hardcore" Porsche guy, in the good sense of the word , and if a PSS9 Turbo left you still disappointed with the handling (versus for example me, who plans to keep my Bilstein 997 Turbo as BFF :-)), then there is no question a test drive in a GT3 is a must before making your next decision. If possible, test a few times, and at speed, not a dealer type test drive. The GT3 only shines at 5000 rpm plus and at the limit. The trade-off, of course, is that GT3 has practically no power in the low end and it's not a daily driver. Then of course there's the GT2, but budget now becomes an issue.

Hope this helps. I do think that we should try to taste all the flavors of any hobby, variations in other words. GT3 is certainly worth a taste, not necessarily 991, and since you already have experienced a Turbo...
