I am trying this resistor fix right now.... stand by for results on Depo lights. I thought I have Dectane. They are labeled Depo on the housing.

Orange Tuning sells Depo but advertises Dectane. = Shady!

Apparently Depo is Asian knock off of Dectane.

 

Pace, IIRC Depo is the only manufacturer of these lights. Dectane was the original reseller and sold the Depo lights under their brand name. However Depo sells these to multiple retailers now.

If someone has more details please let me know if I've misstated the above

 

Didn't work. :-(

Swapping resistors now to see if its the light itself or the 2 larger resistor packs from each light.

 

On top of the "fix" I swapped the resistor boxes and lights have stayed on for 15 minutes. Midnight test drive time I guess.

 

I would so love to have an updated look, but the issues being faced by some of the members here seems to indicate the products are not good quality? Have any of the selling vendors stepped up to offer a professional option/fix?

 

No. Closest you'll get is one of many vendors claiming that their lights are somehow better than the others, which all came off the same assembly line.

It is alarming that so many people have owned these lights for 1-2 years with no issues then suddenly got error codes and lights failing to turn on.

 

well.... That didn't work either. Drove to the gas station and by the time I was on my way home the dummy light came on again.

I put back on the stock tail lights.

Waste of a couple hours.

Frank from Orange Tuning said he will give me a new light so now I will ship this broken one to Germany and wait..... ZZZZzzzzzzz......

 

I know OEM cost more to do but it's so worth it guys! It looks much nicer and you get 2 a year guarantee on the lights.

If you are that bothered replacing the bumpers then find someone who mould the stock bumpers!

 

Hold on. So I took the resistors off and noticed my taps weren't making good contact. The resistors were not getting hot. I reinstalled them. Resistors are HOT now baby and lights are staying on. As I type this I am up to 11 minutes of successful lighting. Cross your fingers. Resistor trick might work after all!

 

Great to hear! The resistor trick worked for me. If it wasn't for the information in this thread about putting them in, I would be back to ugly OEMs.

 

After 2-3hrs of research and reading, I was finally able to fix my issue with the brake light warning. Many thanks to G-forceTarga4S for finding the solution!!!

 

3 days of driving. half of which was at night with them lit and no issues! The resistors have solved the issue!

 

What ohm resisters u guys added. Pls explain where and to which wire u added the resistors.

For the electrical engineers (and those more electrically inclined), a couple of questions.

1) It looks like most of the people here encounter this problem approximately a year or so after installing the DEPO lights. Why did the lights work properly for a year before failing?

2) Why does this DIY fix use two 6ohm resisters in serial instead of one 12ohm resistor by itself?
