Nope, they are not blacked out. Not aftermarket either - came from the factory that way.
They are lightly smoked - been in front of many a cop and have a cop friend, never an issue.

im having the same problem as the OP now. right tail light randomly turns off. It works again when i cycle the lights on and off.

im going to try to get a replacement resistor and hope that solves my problem.

The resistors do the trick 100%. I have some extra if anyone needs them. Half off retail. Let me know.

artyve is infamous around these parts
Just want to add my results. Over the weekend, I added the resistors based on G-forceTarga4S post on page 6 of this thread (thanks G-forceTarga4S!). So far, the resistors are working properly and I am no longer getting any error codes. The resistors do get quite hot, so I recommend attaching them to a body panel. For me, I used 3M Automotive Acrylic Plus double sided tape to mount the resistors to the back of the tail light cavity as per this thread I found online:

http://www.lxforums.com/board/showth...r-Installation

I'll be checking on them in a month's time to ensure that the tape is able to withstand the heat of the resistors.

Have people provided feedback to the manufacturer? It baffles me that customers need to go through all of this just to enjoy this product. Dectane should have the proper step down circuit built into their product. Would be such an easy fix right from the factory.

Not sure how you get this feedback to a manufacturer in Taiwan - maybe through the distributors?

I was told by distributor that the DEPO has improved their products at this year (2014). That is why I bought a new set from a new batch (I was told the new batch should be a trouble free product.... and I hope so)

Thats the thing some of us have had success others its a misery index of 10. The problem is getting the LEDs right. I wonder if they didnt have so much going on if it would be fine. IE they have some LEDS lit up sometimes and not others. For instant make it a full D look instead of the C.

Hi Coquitlam, which distributor did you use? I would be curious how to ensure, if i ordered a set, i would be recieving the improved version.

hi, Jako, I use Ellie at fish123 and she is pretty nice and fast response. She confirmed I will receive the new batch. The set I received have 2 resistor boxes attached on each light and they are already wired into the light. I thought that the older one come with 1 resistor and 1 additional resistors and you can choose to use the additional one or not. To be honest, I don't know whether mine is new batch or not, but it seems different than the older one. So far, I have no issue and I am happy with it. Good luck

The "older ones" I received (4 years ago) came with two resistor boxes that were plugged in line to the wiring harness. I never had any problems with these lights. Bought from CarLightPro. Watch the install video on the CarLightPro site and you can see the resistor boxes during the install.

the 2 resister boxes on my LED light were actually all bolted on the housing which is different then from the one in CarLightPro video.
